I took FAR back in April, felt pretty good about it. I put 100’s of hours studying while working full time (My busy time is year round). After months of studying every spare minute I could find then find out that I only made a 70 on the exam. This was my first part I have taken of the CPA Exam. My question is a 2 parter….The first part is how do I get motviated to start studying again. FAR was a beast to study, so much material. Where do I start and how do I get motivated to start back?…The other question is, how do I shake it off and get ready for my Auditing Section this Friday?…Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

FAR - Attempt 1-(70)...Attempt 2 (Passed Baby)-Praise the Lord-Couldn't have done it without him.
AUD- Attempt 1-Passed!!!!!!!!! )-Praise the Lord-Couldn't have done it without him.
    REG-Attempt 1-(73)...Attempt 2 (Passed Baby)-Praise the Lord-Couldn't have done it without him.
    BEC-Attempt 1-(71)...Attempt 2 (Passed Baby)-Praise the Lord-Couldn't have done it without him.

Well I havent taken FAR so I cant speak to that. But you have to remember that you're not the first person to fail their first attempt and wont be the last. FAR IS A BEAST from what I have read and heard. I purposely did not take it first just to motivate myself. Audit (in my opinion) is different for accountants as you're not doing many calculations but its a lot of theory and memorization. From everything I've heard and read its much easier than FAR. Secondly you're testing window hasnt even started yet, as soon as you pass AUD THEN it will start, so you look at it like you wasted that much time, but try and look at it like you already did the heavy lifting for FAR. Knock out Audit this week and go back and brush up on FAR, you have a good idea of the questions and what to expect this time around. Audits not bad, you should be fine, good luck!

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

    Audit 4/19/12 - 77
    BEC 5/31/12 - 75
    FAR 8/30/12

Sorry to hear that. Whenever I feel down, I buy some cakes and let the sugar lifts up my mood. Since you have studied intensely for AUD, take a day off to rest, go have some fun with family/relatives/friends or do whatever you like to do. Then come back next day and continue reviewing for AUD. Try to think this way: AUD is your second chance to redeem yourself after the failure in FAR. Don't let FAR bring you down. Finish AUD like a boss and then attack FAR with your full force later on. Wish you all the best with the next exam! You can do it!

Sorry about the score. I can tell you I have been in that situation twice before with a 74 on both AUD and BEC with exams coming up the next week. It's tough to shake it off and stay motivated. All the work you have put in to AUD must not be in vain. Pass AUD and go back to dominate FAR.

Failing once isn't a huge deal. I wonder about people that fail multiple times but actually try really hard- I think lots of people are underprepared and know it so its not as huge a blow when they fail. Feeling like you worked really hard and failing sucks.

Are you a good test taker? Sometimes its not the amount you know, but being able to put it on paper when it counts. When I took the first section of my CMA a girl next to me at Prometric got up and left crying. We were seating at just about the same time and she was taking part 2 of the CMA. While we were waiting she talked about how nervous she was; clearly her nerves got to her. Not saying you leave the room crying, but if you feel like you know all the material and still failed look at how you take the test as well.

I had to retake Auditing. I thought I had studied from every angle and knew everything there was to know and I failed. I was so discouraged and wanted to give up. When I restudied I realized all the things I didn't fully grasp and how to see the tricks in the various questions and such. When I retook the test it was so much easier and the grade reflected it. You can always do better next time, just keep your head up and study a little harder next time.

    BEC 76
    AUD 86
    REG 78
    FAR 76 DONE!

I know it will be hard to not think about your score for this week's AUD, but i would try to pretend AUD is your first exam since you've been preparing for it and it's right around the corner. Take it with confidence knowing you've put your best effort into studying. Then start to study again for FAR. You'd be surprised that the information will come back to you, but don't take that as a means to blow of really studying hard. I would take a practice test to see how you do and what your weak areas are now and start there. Maybe you can take it at the beginning of the next window and then start studying for exam #3 (given that you pass AUD – which YOU WILL!!!) Take that one at the end of the following window (August). That should leave you with one exam to take in the last window. You CAN and you WILL pass!!! Good Luck!
