    Hello

I been on and off on my CPA Prep for the last 2 years but work and life used to get in the way and I used to give up. I have finally decided to take FAR this May 24 and would like to know whats the best possible way I can progress without any road bumps.

I am using NINJA Notes, Wiley Focus Notes, Wiley Test Bank / Book and Yeager 2012 Lecture. I know some materials have changed for Yeager but I am using it just to get the basic ideas and plan to learn the changes from 2012 to 2014 materials.

I used 2012 for 2013 early last year and it was all same.

If you guys have any advise and what road map I can take, that would help a lot. I am currently trying to pull atleast 2 hrs weekdays (with some distractions) and around 4-5 on weekend.

I have a total of 92 Days before the exam with 7 days of break in between.

    Thank You

    Hello all,

This is my first post, I have read plenty on anohter 71 and I don't want to start a new topic.

I am taking FAR for the first time and I have purchased the CPAexel suite, I also have the Ninja FAR notes for 2014 with it.

    Now my questions is

    1. How can I tackle studying for this and take the exam at the end of January or beginning of February 2015?

    2. My initial plan is to study 2 to 2.5 hours a day everyday after work and in the weekend do 7 hours in 3.5 intervals each day.

    3. My issue stems from the fact that I can't seem to retain information after a couple of weeks, even though I am reading to learn the material and I am starting to feel overwhelmed.

    4. Any concrete advise on how to start/tackle my first FAR exam is highly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Steve

You will retain better from practicing MCQs rather than trying to memorize. So I suggest you get through the material ASAP so you have a good idea on what topics there are and then immediately start doing MCQs. Whenever you get something wrong, go to that section in the book and make notes/re-read. After doing this for awhile you'll be doing MCQs without really referencing the book, and if you do, you'll be amazed at how you'll know exactly where in the book to look for answers. Good luck!

    FAR - 86 7/2014
    AUD - 95 10/2014
    REG - 87 1/22/15
    BEC - 84 7/2015

So should I go through each chapter and do the MCQ's for that chapter, or should I just finish all the material and then start over with the MCQ's. I know time is essential for this exam, so I don't want to waste it studying in a redundant manner!

Right now I am reading the short chapters in the CPAexcel books and taking the MCQ's so I can retain the information and know If I haven't learned a specific topic, does that make sense or should I look into a different strategy?

I don't watch videos or anything else as I did initially and it was like someone reading of a powerpoint for you, waste of time.

Thanks for the advise so far!

I would definitely keep doing it the way you're doing. I think it's important to sort of compartmentalize the material and get feedback about it immediately. There were a lot of times where I felt like I had a solid understanding of the material only to realize through the MCQs that my framework was wrong. Fixing those misunderstandings early is really helpful.

~25 hours a week isn't bad. Just make sure you go back over the early chapters intermittently so you don't forget about them by the time you finish everything.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

    MCQs MCQs MCQs.

I retain information better through MCQs on study mode (in Wiley). Often in the exam there are times when you can recall doing a practice MCQ on a similar question and if you got it wrong – you will recall it! (at least I do, I hate being wrong!)

I hammer MCQs to death about 1 week prior to the exam. However, that didn't give me enough time to get through FAR material… so, you'll need to adjust to your schedule.

Today, I became a cool kid.

    AUD - Passed
    REG - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed

I missed a few in NinjaMCQ because I didn't read the answers as carefully as I read the question!
