Advice with FAR please!!

I am studying FAR with Becker. I have taken Jeff’s advice about watching ALL lectures for the entire course first and will be done with that tomorrow. I have only worked the questions that are included in the lectures and have not taken any of my own notes yet. I take the exam 5-26 and am feeling the pressure of that date coming fast and am starting to worry about my time management…I will have 18 days to do all MCQ and TBS, notes and review…I do work 35 hours a week, but can sacrifice all else to get in about 100 hours in those 18 days….

Ok so my dilemma is this: I want to take the exam as scheduled, but I also want to pass…I could move the exam to July, study as if I was keeping my same exam date, then switch to Audit. Study and take Audit as scheduled in early July. Then give myself a week to review FAR again and take FAR mid-July. Then I would have about 5-6 weeks for REG within the window.

I would like advice on what to do…I need to decide soon and I want to do what makes the most sense and gives me the best chance of passing…anyone else have any experiences to share? Thanks!

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013
    I am finally DONE!

I think you are better off studying as hard as you can for FAR, take FAR on 5/26 as planned, then study for AUD and take AUD in July. Even if you don't pass FAR in May, you can still take it in the next window, and at least the second time you will have already taken it before and know a little more about what to expect. Personally, I think one of the best ways to prepare for the exam is to actually sit for it! Even if you don't feel 100% ready, I would still just take it because having that extra experience is going to help you study for the second time you take it, and alleviate anxiety because you've already taken it once before. Yes, you spend more money taking it twice, but that's better than postponing, taking once, and failing.

I agree with calcpasoon. I would stick with FAR in May and AUD in July. If you happen to fail FAR, then retake it in August.

I wasn't quite ready for FAR but took it on 4/26 as planned. My NTS expired on 4/27 so since it was paid for I figured that I might as well get the experience. If I fail, I'm taking it in July or August after more prep time. I don't think I did well on the exam, but you never know. If nothing else, I learned that I need a lot more work on IFRS and Govt accounting.

    BEC - 83 (10/22/10)
    REG - 87 (11/30/10)
    AUD - 76 (02/26/11)
    FAR - 79 (04/26/11)

Thanks for the advice! Both of you and myself have convinced me to push forward and take the stinkin thing on 5-26…

I played the same mental games with myself for BEC, but then when I took BEC it was horrible! Being my first test, I think it has just scared me for the rest of them…
