Accrual Accounting in CPAexcel…omg

I’m studying for a retake of FAR in about a month (just started restudying today) and am working on the dreaded “Accrual Accounting” tab of Wiley CPAexcel. It is just as atrocious as it was the first time around. Does anyone else who used CPAexcel feel the same way about this section as me? The 39 questions and 5 SIMS over this one section seem like overkill given that it is sandwiched between sections of 10 and 2 MCQs each, respectively. Maybe it’s just me….but I just cannot force myself through it. I watch the lecture, have down pat the little formulas the nice lady in the videos give us, but jeeze some of those questions are SOOO long…I’m considering skipping it and coming back after I have more energy. I’ve literally spent over 4 hours on this one section.

    Anyway…rant over.

Just wanted others opinions if this is as awful of a section as it is for others. It’s not the material I dislike…just those questions. Yuck. Give me WTB or Ninja MCQs over the same topic and I’m fine.

I went over it yesterday, and it took me the whole evening to finish that section. It's absolutely horrendous that topic. To be fair, the 5 SIMS aren't as bad as the 39 MCQ's.

    BEC - July 2016 → 78
    AUD - Sep 2016
    REG - Nov 2016
    FAR - Feb 2017

I didn't even start the 5 SIMS yet. My brain just refuses lol. I'm glad it's not just me that absolutely hates that section. Any section but that one!

accrual is just common sense. When I took FAR, I studied with Ninja and Wiley review guide (questions only). Compared to Ninja, Wiley was very difficult and when i got the test my impression was “That is it?”.
Since you have taken it before, you know what they ask. Do not worry so much about lengthy questions; I believe ninja mcq is more relateable to the exam.

Materials: Wiley book + Ninja MCQ

    FAR - 83 (Jan 2016)
    Study time: 6 weeks
    BEC - 87 (April 2016)
    Study time: 2 weeks
    AUD - 92 (July 2016), (74 Feb 2016), (72 May 2016)
    Study time: 4 (Feb) + 2 (May) + 3 (July) = 9 weeks total
    REG - (70 April 2016)
    Study time: 3 weeks

Wait till you get to those review quizzes. For FAR I remember there were a couple review quizzes with 350+ MCQs, and took me 3-4 hrs to finish them. One of them I got a yellow score and I was like F this. LOL

Wasn't a huge fan of Pam at first but over the course of 3 months, she grew on me.

Accrual accounting = recognizing revenue in the period earned and matching the expenses to that period.
    Pretty easy actually 🙂

What they do in CPAExcel is give you tons of questions asking you to take some figure (revenue or expense) that is in accrual basis and ask you what it would be in cash basis. Or the reverse. It's maddening.

Doing stuff using accrual basis or cash basis is not so bad, it's the going back and forth that is difficult.
