I did some practice simulations in the Wiley test bank interface and I noticed the present value function in the excel spreadsheet does not autofill when you type in the formula, nor does it prompt you on any inputs like in the actual excel. I am guessing I must memorize the present value function and know how to do an annuity etc. I want to know if this is the same for the exam experience.

I ran into the same problem on one of the Sims in Wiley and I can say with all most 100% certainty that this will not happen on the exam. Remember that Wiley is constantly updating with no breaks through out the year. The AICPA has 4 months a year that they can “test” the test for typos, errors and programming problems. Wiley doesn't get this luxury. Wiley does the best they can under their circumstances, but don't worry about it. As long as you know how to answer the Sim then you should be alright. If you don't know how to answer it then send Wiley an e-mail and they will help you out. Good Luck!

Thank you Kricket, so no need to memorize the pv function! Hurrah!

the exam typically doesn't test you on things like this. they will either tell you the PV or (rarely) give you a table.

In the SIMS, what is the excel spreadsheet used for?

I'm only on Ch. 3 in Becker, and have not gotten to any sims that require use of the spreadsheet, so what topics will the spreadsheet be used for?

Also, like home stretch, I have noticed that the spreadsheet in Becker and in Wiley does not work like the REAL Excel spreadsheet. How can I learn how to use it?

How is the test spreadsheet different from the real excel?

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!

So when you are preparing a bond amortization schedule or discounting to present values, the problem won't always give you a Present Value table. Instead, they will make you use the excel function of Present value. In MS excel, when you type in ‘=pv ‘, it will prompt you on the inputs and explain each one to you. With Wiley (and I guess Becker too), they don't do that.

On the test, it seems like they will tell you the syntax, ie they will tell you that the first input is the discount rate, the second is # of periods, third input will ask if it is an annuity, the fourth will ask if it is annuity due or ordinary annuity etc.
