A week ahead, how should I use my time?

I dont start grad courses until early September so I’ve had the past week (+10 more days) of a very relaxed schedule so I havent been doing anything except studying!

I’m scheduling FAR for late October and it will be my first exam. In this past week I have done the following for both chapter 1 & 2.

    Watched all Lectures

All the MCQ – 2x over

Re-read the chapter and took detailed notes

Practiced the Sims – 2x over

So I feel pretty dam comfortable with ch 1-2 so far and I’m going to do a couple progress tests tomorrow which leaves me a whole week ahead of schedule. Should I just move right into chapter 3? The study plan sets me up with 2 full weeks of review before the exam too.

Also, My application for the exam was approved yesterday so I am waiting on my NTS to arrive. Will this take the full 8-9 weeks? Thank you!!

What review course are you using? It sounds like Becker. I would move on the Ch 3. There will be times when you don't get as much covered during a given week as you'd like, or you need to spend more time on certain topics (for me it was Governmental accounting). If you are using Becker, in my opinion, Becker does not give you nearly enough MCQs. If you don't have Wiley Test Bank, you should get it and do those MCQs as well.

    I passed in 2012!

    BEC - PASSED - I'M DONE!!!
    AUD - PASSED (finally!!)
REG - PASSED (Twice - lost credit first time)
    FAR - PASSED!

Definitely move on. I feel like individually, I can understand the chapters decently. As a whole, FAR is too intense. It's a lot easier to do questions and what not within a chapter. But also, as Rebecca_AZ mentioned there are weeks where you fall behind a little. Also, if you're doing Becker and you feel comfortable with F2, props to you. F2 made me want to cry.

As for getting approved. The whole process takes a while. If so far just your application and fee has been received, you still have to wait for them to approve your transcript – which would probably take the most time! You're better off getting answers from people in your state though, not sure which that is. You can look in your state's thread though!

@Rebecca_AZ Thanks for the info! I should really get the Wiley test bank as well? Ugh this is costing me a lot more than expected, I also picked up the Ninja audios. I am using becker which I should have posted in my original post.

@moey F2 is definitely confusing, I spent a good amount of hours the second time around to try and really understand it.

I got my transcript approved via email! So they said they will be sending my NTS.

If you're approved you should be close!! I don't think they give transcript notifications for my state, I only knew they had it and when they gave me my ATT. For me it was receive ATT (select the tests to take/buy), after 1 week got invoiced & paid, then finally after 1 day received my NTS.. Very slow process!

    @ShowMeThaMoney

Don't feel like you MUST get anything extra in addition to Becker, especially if you'd rather not spend the extra money. I have used only Becker for FAR (although I did purchase the NINJA notes prior to my last week of review and read through them once or twice), and did the same for AUD. I felt like I had plenty of information to work from for those two, as long as you complete all the work and write notes. (I also wrote flashcards) Oh, I did use the Final Review also because it was supplied in the class I took, but I am not sure how much more that helped. I never even made it through all the MCQ's twice – just the first time through, then did Progress Tests after each chapter to keep the previous chapters in my mind, and then both Final Exams. I'm not saying anything negative about Wiley Test Bank because I know a lot of people use it – just saying it may not be necessary for you. Sounds like you have a solid plan and work ethic. Definitely keep moving, though! Some chapters take longer than expected. Good Luck!

I agree with the others telling you to move on. FAR is just so much info that you have to just keep going because eventually you will get to one of those chapters where there are like 300 MC questions in the HW and that alone will take you several hours, especially since alot of them are often computation problems. Just keep going and let the info soak in, and make sure you keep doing progress tests to keep the earlier chapters info fresh in your mind as well. Good luck!!! You got this!!!

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

IMO Becker's MCQ's were more than sufficient for AUD. I'm taking FAR on Wednesday, so we'll see about that.

Definitely move on from F2 to F3. I actually think you're over-killing it. Are you going to remember all this F1 and F2 stuff in two months when you're getting ready to test? Probably not. Heck, I had forgot a lot of the F1-F5 details when I started reviewing last week, and I only started studying for FAR at the beginning of August! In my opinion, watch the lectures once, do the MCQ's and Sims for each section once, then move on. After you've been through all the chapters, then re-read the text (I didn't even re-read the text once until after I had been through all the lectures), go back and re-work the MCQ's (skip the option practice questions if you're pressed for time like me), re-work the sims, take the final exams, go over the 2012 released questions on Becker's site, then do comprehensive practice questions if you have time.

Just my advice, probably worth what you paid for it 🙂

^^^ Thanks all definitely a huge help!

@CPA Hopeful you are right I re-did a MC section with like 91 questions for F2…ate up like 2 hours of study time.

I think a better strategy is

    Lectures

    Re-Read/Take notes/MCQ in sections

    Sims

    MOVE ON!

I would continue to move on if I were you. You will hit a snag at some point and be thankful you have the extra time. Plus, if you don't hit that snag it provides me with an extra couple of days to keep doing MCQs and performing you own final reviews.
