74 = rite of passage

    That’s the way I’m looking at it. I got my 74. I got it out of my system. To be honest, I had a weird feeling I was going to get a 74. If I failed, I freaking KNEW it was going to be a 74 (see my prediction in post “predict your score”).

    My instant reaction was anger, then tears. Now, I just want to start studying again. I am so close I can taste it. I can’t believe it. And my anger is at myself. I know I made stupid mistakes. I didn’t RTFQ. I should have gotten questions right that I got wrong.

    The classic line was this morning when my 5 year old boy asked if other people passed and I didn’t. When I said yes, he responded, “Oh come on! That’s not fair! They knew the answers and you didn’t!”

    That made me laugh so hard and it’s true – the passers knew the answers and I didn’t! It’s funny how kids are so much smarter than they are given credit for!

    Anyway…I plan to still be active and encouraging on the forum. I just wanted to vent a little bit! I’m glad that I got my 74 out of my system. Now it’s time for a score in the 90s! I haven’t had one of those yet either!!!

    @Mrs 300 sorry to hear about your score. My score reflects that i def need to restudy and redo everything but 74 is so darn close. I probably would have cried a lot more if I got a 74. My husband got a 74 when he took FAR, I can only imagine how you must be feeling. We just need to plug along and hopefully we will get this done soon. I have used the same study materials (becker, ninja and wiley test bank) as you how are you planning to restudy?

    @goodluck congrats on passing FAR!

    shossain6 I was also very down on myself when I got my 65. Although at that point, I knew I failed and it would take a miracle for me to pass. This time I knew I was close walking out. But coming up short (74 short) was pretty hard to swallow.

    As far as how I'm going to slay the FAR beast again, my strategy is going to be to start from square 1, page 1, question 1 and leave no stone unturned. I'm going to get medieval and leave nothing to chance.* I'm going to give all of the difficult/heavy sections equal attention and weight. I'm going to do the early, lunch, late program that Jeff suggests. I'm going to rewrite my notes twice. I'm also going to take more practice exams because I ran out of time doing them and they were so helpful. I really played my chances with some areas that I now regret.

    I'm not going to change my materials because I really felt prepared. I think I had 1 question that wasn't in my materials or looked odd and that I'd never seen the topic before.

    A piece of advice – taking the test a second time is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. I did not have 1 same question or 1 same SIM. You will be taking a completely different test.

    I'm chasing after 75 points – not 1.

    * Credits to Jeff Elliot – he said a lot of this in another post and I don't want a copyright issue on Another71. Haha.

    thanks for the great advice Mrs 300. I think I will do the same as you even though at first I wasn't sure if I should watch the lectures in Becker again or not. i hear you about chasing 75 points and not 1, start like its brand new. Also I thought the MCs in my exam was very fair, all the concepts were taught in Becker, I just messed up. I also have people at my work right out of their masters program who ended up with mid 90s. i can't even imagine how on earth people get those scores in FAR. Anyways good luck with studying.

    I feel your pain guys, I got a 74 in BEC and then two weeks later a 74 in AUD! BEC was first time taking it and AUD for the 3rd time! You feel like crap when you get a 74! Its like they fail you on purpose! I'll be retaking both of them in July.

    @shossain6 I see lot of people who have 99's in AUD, how is that possible? lol

    Mrs 300 your sig says that you are using Becker and Ninja notes. I am very interested in the notes but how well do they align with the Becker materials and how did you specifically use them? Just during review? As a cram? As a substitute to taking your own notes? I learn by writing, so I think the NINJA strategy of rewriting the NINJA notes may work well for me, but I am afraid that the materials will not align well for my final reviews.

    Any one else on this thread have any input?

    Also, Wiley test bank? What difference are you seeing between the Becker questions and Wiley questions? I am not familiar with the Wiley materials. THANKS!!!

    FAR - PASSED (80)
    BEC - PASSED (82)
    AUD - PASSED (81)
    REG - PASSED (77)

    GekkoNinja – I used the Ninja notes as a supplement. I kept them handy and if I had spare time in the car or at work, I'd glance through them.

    As far as aligning with Becker, the Ninja notes are divided based on the large topics in Becker. So if I was having problems understanding leases in Becker, I'd go to Jeff's notes and then back to Becker.

    I also used my Ninja notes for the morning of the exam. It was nice to have something very basic so I didn't freak out of I didn't know something. Ninja notes are kind of like Cliff's notes – they are extremely valuable if you use them as a SUPPLEMENT. In my opinion, I don't think they can be a review course on their own, but they are a fantastic supplement.

    When I rewrote notes, I used a combination of making my own notes from Becker and the Ninja notes.

    As far as Wiley goes, you will find several duplicate questions between Wiley and Becker. I'd say 20% (possibly more). But it's GREAT to have a new set of questions. I got them because I was sitting for FAR for the second time and toward the end of my review, I realized that I started memorizing the Becker questions. That made me nervous, so I wanted something fresh. The Wiley questions are more difficult than Becker.

    I hope this helps. Remember, this is just my opinion, but I think the consensus is that the Wiley questions are more difficult than Becker overall.
