6 Tab FAR TBS?

    Took the exam on Friday 5/6/11, i thought the TBS for FAR were supposed to be 7 tabs, but mine were 6 tabs, crazy difficult all of them, anyone else been in a similar pridicament? I feel good about the MCQ(medium-difficult-medium), but the sims have me worried. are the TBS adaptive as well, based on how you do in MCQ?

    1. the TBS are not adaptive.

    2. that really weird you had only 6 of them. are you counting the research? you should have had 7 in all counting the research tab.

    Yes, 6 tabs inlcluding the research tab, only had one research tab.

    Should't there have been two research tasks on two seperate tabs?

    I had the directional screen and 6 task based sims.

    I think you def. need longer than an hour to finish the tbs. What were your guys other simulations like?

    Here is what I found in the AICPA's guide:

    Section Structure

    The components of the Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) and Regulation (REG) sections will be:

    • Three Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) testlets, and

    • One testlet containing six or seven short Task-Based Simulations (TBS)

    So it looks like you have nothing to worry about if you had 6. I am not sure if you were “lucky” to have less so you didn't have as big of a time pressure OR if you were “unlucky” because you probably had less pre-test ones. Who knows?!

    BEC: 79 - April 2011
    FAR: 78 - May 2011
    AUD: 81 - May 2012
    REG: 79 - October 2012
    Ethics: Passed - March 2013

    IwannaBaCPA, the quote your referencing is combining the description of AUD, FAR, and REG. In that same document the AICPA says there will be 3 testlets with 24-30 MCQ. REG has 24 MCQ/testlet and AUD and FAR have 30. There are only 6 sims on REG, but there are supposed to be 7 on AUD on FAR. You can have 1 research question and 6 problems or 2 research and 5 problems.

    CPAASAP, in your second email you said you had 6 tabs including the research tab and then you said you had 6 task-based sims. There is a research tab at the top that you click on to access the reference material, but there is no label on the problems themselves indicating whether they're research or task-based sims. You should have had 7 tabs at the bottom numbered 1-7.

    @kb24, i had 6 TBS numbered 1-6. there was one research question and 5 problems.

    PS: Sorry Kobe got swept by the Mavs.

    CPAASAP – I don't know why you didn't get 7 sims. According to info in the following link you should have seen 7 on FAR.
