I have my first CPA exam on August 21st. I’ve been studying with Wiley Test Bank and NINJA notes, and I’ve been doing questions repeatedly and trying to understand why I made certain mistakes. I feel it’s just a bit overwhelmed to try to remember everything. Does anyone think I’m ready? I’m a bit anxious

My weakest areas are, scoring in the 50-60 percentage range

-Consolidations(I understand the topic well, but I somehow keep getting a 50-60 on my practice sessions),

    -Stockholders equity: Mainly Diluted EPS,

    – Statement of Cash flows

    – Current Assets and Liabilites (hard questions regarding notes payable, or contingent liabilites)

Would it hurt my chances if I do poorer on these areas? Does anyone have any tips for my final run at this?

On my practice exams, I score consistent 60s-70s.

You still have another week or so to go over those weaker areas so I would certainly zone into those. For me, I know that I failed my first exam and first attempt at FAR because I was WAY too nervous. I did great in the MCQ, but once I saw the SIMs my heart dropped. My advice is to stay calm throughout the exam and pace yourself. The more time you have for SIMs the better, but at the same token you don't want to sacrifice your MCQs just to get to the SIMs. Your scores aren't horrible by any means and you have a good shot of passing. Study those areas and take more practice exams if you can. Also, hit the JEs if you have time, they can help in the SIMs. Best of Luck, you can pass!!

    FAR 66 (07/01/13), 75! (10/01/13)
    AUD 64 (08/12/13), 80! (11/23/13)
    BEC 84! (05/22/14)
    REG 77! (08/28/14)
    DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please remember that not all questions are graded (there are number of throwaways in each testlet). Knowing this fact had helped me to relax and take cool-headed approach during the exams. I did not know this before my first exam until somebody from this forum had brought it up later.

Another thing, not all the areas will be tested. You never know what is going to be “drawn” for your particular test. Do your best in preparation and if not able to master some areas, it is OK, just go in and try to best-guessed it for the heck of it.

    Good luck!
