4 sections to the exam- Is more than one review course necessary?

Hi everyone- many times on this forum I have seen people post (for example) that they scored great using Yaeger for REG & FAR, but for BEC & AUD they had to use/supplement with another like Becker.

I hate the idea of having to purchase separate review courses for my studies, especially since you usually save money buying the package deal up front.. however if it is recommended I just buy each section one at time I will do that.

Please let me know which review course you recommend for each section. I am highly considering Yaeger to puchase.

    THANKS!

    AUD-

    FAR-

    REG-

    BEC-

    ----------
    AUD - 74, 77! (1/2016)
    BEC - 80! (5/2016)
    REG - tbd (8/2016)
    FAR - tbd

    Study materials: NINJA MCQ/Audio/Notes

I used CPAexcel for all 4 sections and passed with the range 80-89. I did supplement my studying with free cpareviewforfree (which in my case, it was just good and save me for REG). Just be focused, take good note and pray 😀

Necessary? No. Many people pass on their first try with one course. I used Becker.

I failed with a couple courses before finding CPAexcel. Then I started passing. If I had started with CPAexcel, I'm sure I could have used it to pass all four sections. The only one I used a different course for was FAR, only because I started with Roger CPA, which just didn't mesh well with me.

I've passed my previous 3 just using the Wiley test bank and book. I'll find out if I passed AUD next month. I did use the Ninja notes for FAR and AUD.

i'm also 4/4 with CPA excel… and also, i believe if you switch courses because of failing, you're blaming something other than yourself.

    REG - 81
    BEC - 88
    AUD - 85
    FAR - 81

    valueofnothing- I like your viewpoint!

RedRage00- when you say you used the wiley test bank and book, does that mean you purchased Yaeger? I know that they come with the lectures, and Wiley books + test bank.

I used Becker only for all my CPA exams, and I didn't use anything else.

Well, I guess it all depends on how much commitement u would put into studying.

I am sure there is not a single solid textbook that could save you, if you don't actually spend the right amount of time into it.

@valueofnothing “if you switch courses because of failing, you're blaming something other than yourself”

How can you assume that? That's a very generalist statement. Yes, some people may be blaming something other than themselves… but some are not. It's incorrect to assume everyone is in the same boat.

I don't think that recognizing that you don't learn well with one review program and switching reviews is necessarily a cop-out. I personally cannot effectively learn by watching videos, and I originally purchased Roger CPA because my firm strongly recommended it. Most of Roger's course was videos, which I have a really hard time learning from. I failed with Roger. I don't blame the review course in that it's a bad review course or anything along those lines… But I do think that for me, CPAexcel was a much better option and helped me to succeed better than Roger CPA did. Does that mean that I'm “blaming something other than (my)self?” No. It means I recognized my strengths and used them to my advantage. Try to be a little bit more open minded.

@kandisjoy – I started studying for the CPA in January 2010 using Becker. I got a 68 for BEC the first time (did all the mandatory questions for the Becker promise). I then took Becker's final review in Dallas and got a 73. I also used it for REG but did not finish all the mandatory questions for the Becker promise and got a 68. I AM NOT BLAMING BECKER AT ALL. It was all on myself for not doing as much as I could. However, I do not do well with neumonics (sp?) or having to memorize or watching a video of a book and just highlighting. I like the old school way of teaching which is why Yeager seems to be a better fit for my way of learning. Also, CPAexcel seems to be great because it does not have long lectures. Can you tell me a little bit more of your experience with CPAexcel?

    Thank you so much!

@Wanttobecpa2012 – Good for you for recognizing that your learning style might night mesh with every review program!

I really loved CPAexcel. I bought the most inexpensive/basic version of the course (the self-study program) which does not include videos or books; I don't learn well from videos and I've heard that the books are the exact same thing as the information available in their online program (which you can print out). I read everything from their website and printed out things as necessary. The program asked what your test date is and then automatically creates due dates for all of their little mini courses so that you will complete your course in time for your exam. They have a mini test after each mini section. The tests can be anywhere from 3 to 20 questions long, depending on how much information was in the section. I'd say they are usually around 7 questions long. They also have a pretty awesome practice exam!

I could go on and on about CPAexcel! I recommended it to a friend of mine who has been struggling with this exam for at least two years (she just had her REG expire) and she sent me a note after she found out that she passed that was something along the lines of “Thank you so much for recommending CPAexcel to me! I finally passed AUD!” A couple people on these forums have also thanked me for recommending it to them.. so that's a pretty good sign! I think that this program is best for people who are self disciplined… which should be almost everyone studying for this exam. But both my friend and I had graduated from online universities, so maybe we were a little bit more comfortable with this type of learning.

I think that you would learn the most about it by going to their website and signing up for their free trial version. If you have any questions after trying that out, please let me know. 🙂 You can email me at kandisjoy at gmail dot com. I might miss it if you post on here.

sorry for the realtalk… yeah something may not be tailored to you (im sure i have the mild ADD of everyone else in my generation who grew up playing video games while watching tv while playing on the computer while drinking energy drinks while pretending to do homework and i was able to focus on boring, self-discipline-necessary CPA excel) but if someone else can use it to pass all 4 sections, you can use it to pass all 4 sections.

    REG - 81
    BEC - 88
    AUD - 85
    FAR - 81
