4 days before FAR and freaking out!

I am taking FAR this Saturday. I have completed all the Becker videos and MCQ’s and had a chance to go over the textbook twice. I am using my time this week to brush up on all the important concepts (esp. the earlier chapters that I have forgotten), read my notes and flashcards. I just do not feel confident going into this exam. I feel like I am not prepared and if I were to get a question on a concept I am reviewing, I would freak out and go blank in the exam. I know there have been a lot of posts on this forum related to my post but I guess I am just looking for advice on if I am on the right track with all this. There is so much material, I know there is no way I am going to recall everything on exam day. For the last 4 days, I just plan to review the remaining chapters, continue doing some progress tests (which is another reason I am getting so anxious – I have been scoring in low 70’s on those) and take a practice exam to expose myself to SIMs and budgeting my time. This is hopefully my last part (my credits start expiring in March), my Becker is expiring after the exam and I have a major move coming up too – I really don’t want to have to retake this exam (I know, no one does!) especially with the 2018 Rev Rec changes coming up. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, at this point, it probably is what it is. I took FAR yesterday; last week I was comfortable enough with the material that I took the weekend off. Closer to the exam date, I began panicking. On Saturday morning I tried to change my exam date but it was too late — the website said my appointment was non-cancelable at the point (confusing since it says 24-hours and Prometric is open on the weekend). I ended up cramming for 20-25 hours from Friday until my exam on Monday. And you know what? It was obvious it didn't make a lick of a difference. In fact, it probably worked against me — I was so tried and beat I made some silly mistakes. Don't make mine!

I don't think anyone feels ready for FAR. You never know what's going to be thrown your way on this exam from the plethora of topics that can be tested in a multitude of ways. With the new format you can't really prepare yourself for the Sims. Just keep reviewing notes and progress tests. Don't burn yourself out before the exam.

I think your strategy is on point- review. You did your part by studying lectures and MCQ and this isn't your first part so you know what to expect from the exam (I think the first sit down is definitely the hardest). Four days is definitely enough time to review and not necessarily cram – you do not want to burn yourself out! Maybe do a couple of MCQ to keep your mind fresh but if you put in the work all along you will be fine!

If this has been your strategy for the other three parts I don't see any reason to make changes – “if it ain't broke- no need to fix it”

    Good Luck!!

Thanks, guys. Really appreciate all the input. I think I will stick to my strategy and try not to burn myself out too much.

It’s really challenging during the few days prior to an exam. Our mindset tells us “keep studying and cramming as hard as you can.” However, I find myself burning out really, really bad when I do this and make silly mistakes that I typically would not make. You want to keep reviewing, but take it easy the day before the exam like others have said. I sincerely hate the few days prior to the exam because I sometimes panic and think I forgot something. However, if you have done your due diligence most of the material is floating around in your brain.

Goodluck on FAR and keep reviewing your notes. I know exactly what you are going through, but I’m studying good ol’ REG!!!
