Yes you will be. Unless you have 150 units already, but they can be general credits. It is 1/1/14 that they will be specifying what units count for the license. But currently under pathway 2 you can count one year experience if you have 150 units completed. But you must have your license application in with state of CA before 12/31/13. Have you seen the new worksheet? Maybe that will help.

When you say general credits… Does that mean general college requirementa? Like art classes and all?

    Thank you by the way

“When you say general credits… Does that mean general college requirementa? Like art classes and all?”

That is my understanding and my hope! See this handhook for current licensing requirements:

    https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/publications/applbook.pdf

I have 150 units, but racing against the clock in case they don't allow mine for the new special requirements. I think they count, but CA won't tell me until I apply.

    Good luck!

I had a question about which pathway I could apply under since I do not have a degree in accounting (took all my accounting classes after college) and when I called the CBA I was told the following:

The 150 units are SEMESTER units and can be any units from an approved university and can include the units from your degree. Since I have already submitted my transcripts to sit for the exam I don't need to do it again, my units were approved at that time. Luckily I was a science major and I needed 225 quarter units to complete my degree, and I took all my accounting and half by business admin units after college, so I was able to meet the semester unit requirment.

    1 quarter unit – 2/3 semester unit

You should try for Pathway 2 if you can, since it's the pathway most similar to licensing requirements in other states.

Lastly, if you ever have questions call the number on the CBA website. They will answer! Every time I have called, they have answered within a few rings, a human picks up and they are always very friendly and helpful.

Shout out to the CBA staff!

My person wouldn't tell me anything because I didn't have an open license application πŸ™ Maybe I should try again.

Thanks everyone. Okay so maybe I am just way too confused. I turned in my transcripts before I sat for the exam except for one that shows pending. Does that mean its been evaluated? I have been reading the handbook but then again it can be interpreted differently. Thank you all for your patience,

@littlenumberrobot: can you even apply for license without passing four sections yet? Like can it be pending? Maybe a stupid question but please explain what you meant

You cannot apply for the license without having passed the four sections of the exam. I called to ask about if I was eligible to apply under Pathway 2 since I just finally passed my last section.

However, when I was applying to sit for the exam, I also called the CBA as I had a number of questions and they answered all of them.

You have to submit all of your transcripts when you are applying to even just sit for the exam in CA. They review your transcripts and make sure the units are from accredited institutions and then approve them.

Have you completed the application process to sit for the exam? Once that is done then you can actually take the exam.

@littlenumberrobot I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with the CBA. Every time I have called they have been friendly and helpful, perhaps you got someone feeling particularly cranky.

How did the exam go? I'm rooting for you!

@hmesalguero – if you have completed additional units since your initial application to sit, you want to send those in. Technically the license application is seperate from examination.

@DesperatelySeekingChupacabra – it may have been because I was asking about the NEW requirements. I asked if they can tell me if my units are going to count as the additional 20 units of accounting study. I have the 150 and will be fine under pathway 2… just trying to prepare if I do not make the cutoff for new rules. My test went pretty well, thanks for asking! I just started for audit and I had forgotten how boring it was!! Ha. But I feel fairly confident in BEC.

    Hello:

When i look new CA req, I am little confuse. In this link https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/self-assess.shtml they are talking about new req. So fare I understood this part—-

    Core Accounting 24

    Business 24

But what is this other 20 Accounting related study? So now you need 24(core)+20(acct related) =44 accounting credit?

or 24(core)+6(another core acct)+14 and rest can fall from other business related subject in this area?

I have BS in Accounting with 25 accounting credits and enough business credit, but cant understand this another 20 credit req.

Can some one shed light on this?

    Thanks,

Lets see What I can do...

    FAR- Who Knows when?
    BEC- I don't know..
    REG- Give me a break..
    AUD- Getta out of here...

I actually called and they told me that I would need a

total of 30 core accounting units (can be same class taken at different time and different school) example can use credits of accounting 1 class taken multiple times as long as each time taken was at a different school and different semester)

24 units in business related subjects + 14 units (to meet accounting study) = 38

    10 units ethics study

she also mentioned that the new law will be strict with the “Ethics” section…title of classes must be exact
