    Hey guys,

Been awhile since I’ve been on here… does anyone know what the deal is with 2012 tax forms being mailed out late? I’ve already filed our taxes, and I got a form 1099 in the mail yesterday. It’s for some tech stock my husband bought a long time ago that I had forgotten about. He sold it last year at a loss. I thought all companies were required to mail 1099’s by 1/31. Was there an extension this year that I didn’t know about? Thanks for any insight!

I work in tax… there was no extension, but I assume people can always be late. But as far as I know usually the 1099INT and other statements from investments don't usually show up until mid-feb. I don't know if they have their own deadline, just kind of rule of thumb for our clients to wait for them.

Hmmmm…. I always thought 1/31 was the deadline but apparently not. Maybe that's just the W-2 deadline for employers. Bad news is I have to do our taxes again but the good news is we'll be getting more money back (if I recall the REG stuff correctly).

Good luck on your last exam! You're almost there!!

No, 1099B and 1099MISC don't have to be mailed until 2-15. This started last year now that brokers have to report cost basis. Also, if there is a 1099INT as part of the 1099B like on a broker's combined 1099 then I believe those are 2-15, as well.

    FAR - 81 (8/31/12)
    AUD - 93 (10/19/12)
    BEC - 79 (11/27/12)
    REG - 92 (2/8/13) DONE! All 1st attempt!

it's 1/31 for most 1099s (interest/dividends/misc, unless included as a consolidated 1099) and then alot of the brokerage houses have til 2/15. they're given an extension due to the new (since last year) reporting requirements for realized gain/loss transactions. and then i know that some of them are given further extensions. i'm waiting on a ton of brokerage 1099s for a client from jp morgan, and their advisor said they were given until the end of the month.

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!

Thanks a lot, gsnyder!! I was kind of hoping I had a reason to report Morgan Stanley to the IRS for non-compliance. They assisted my husband in losing $2,600 on a stock deal. At least I know that rule now for future reference. Good luck on BEC!

And good luck to everyone waiting on scores! I can't believe I'm saying this but I secretly miss the excitement of score release 🙂
