2011 FAR Changes – Blessing or a Curse ?

    Hello Everyone,

    I just flunked in FAR (66) and I’m too scared of the changes coming up in Jan. It appears to me that the 4th testlet with task based questions are nothing but the similar tabs which we saw in the sims of the current exam structure. Earlier the WC was (kind of) 10 marks for free, but now …. I don’t know!!!

    Is anyone aware what type of task based questions are we going to see? Also any idea how much will the research question carry.

    I intend to sit for the exam in the last week of Feb, when can I expect the scores? I heard there are some changes in the score release process as well.

    Please let me know if anyone has any idea.

    The score release is now at the end of the quarter. So if you sit in February, you shoudl know by end of March.

    I haven't heard anything about research tabs.. I wonder if they are still in the exam?

    As it relates to FAR in 2011 the three multiple choice testlets are worth 60% and the seven, yes i said seven, task based simulations are worth 40%. I've read that one of the task based simulations is a research question.

    Yes, they will still have the research in 2011 but it will be pulled from the codifications database. You would have to say which codification ### it is found in. If you go and do the aicpa site there is a sample of the 2011 exam (only portion of it) and you can see how the research portion looks. I am very curious about the new becker materials, I doubt they can transform them so fast.

    they also have a “new” calculator, but not a manual one again… I am curious to see. I don't trust them…

    I was so mad at the calculator yesterday. By the end of my exam I was slamming the mouse on my desk.

    As if it weren't cumbersome enough to use the stupid thing, I would find myself trying to type in numbers in the blanks on the simulation and it would go on the calculator and I would lose my figure I needed and had to start over. I'm in a panic anyway and it was too much to deal with.

    The damn thing was always blocking my view too so I had to keep moving it around.

    So having codification database means u have to memorize the section # in order to find the stuff? Not by typing keywords anymore? lol, this is getting harder!

    I doubt you will have to memorize the section number, its not humanly possible, or is it ?
