Ive been studying since August. Im using Yeagar, going over Whiley practice problems and scoring 50-60%….any suggestions? Im burnt out my exam is very soon and I feel like every time I learn something new I forget something else. Just a note this is my first exam, Ive put in 200+ hours of pure study time, Ive kept a study log and timed my hours.

I feel your pain. This is exactly how I felt when I first took FAR (my first test) a few months back with Becker. My problem that I realized after receiving my score was that I did not take the time to really hammer down the concept rather I was trying to just get through as many MCQ as I could (I memorized the procedure on how to do questions; not necessarily understanding concepts). So my tip to you is, when you get something wrong go back to your notes and try to figure out why (try to figure our the underlying concept or principle in the question). This is a tedious process, but it works.

Also, when you feel burnt out from doing MCQ's try switching up the gears a little and switch to maybe rewriting notes in some areas you have difficultly with and then once you get sick of that go back to hammering some more MCQ.

Also, take breaks in between your MCQ testlets! You'd be surprised as how much more focused you can be when you get your mind off of MCQs for 5 minutes and come back to it.

I wish you the best of luck. You can do it. Stay positive.

I spent ~ 2 months studying for FAR while working. For FAR, I thought it was pretty important to rework those MC questions, especially the ones with calculations. The FAR MC has a lot of tricky wording from what I remember…especially for those bond questions. So make sure you're able to pick up on the little tricks they throw at you. Two other important things for FAR: know your JEs for the SIMS and know IFRS. FAR was the only section so far that I went back and re-worked MC over and over (b/c I tend to memorize the answers pretty quickly). One other thing that I typically do ~ a week before the test is to ask myself, “What do I really hope they don't ask me a lot of questions about?” Then I go back and re-study that section because I probably don't know it as well as I should.

CPABear, how much of the Bonds section is warrants? That “stuff” is killing me.

Wow 200+ study time, major props! I think at this point, you really have to spend your time wisely.

I only had about ~100 hours to study for the test, and in the last few days, I realized I was not ready (don't ask why I realized so late, haha). I was in major panic mode, but I made sure that I master all the areas I knew (~85%), and gave up certain parts (15%) .

On the test day, the certain parts that I gave up around 20% of the test… I was devastated that the other areas that I knew wasn't tested at all, but I kept on going, making sure that the answers that I DID know were actually correct (as in no stupid mistakes).

When I got to the sims, those !@#$ing areas that I did not know came up again for two questions!!! But I tried not to panic again, and kept going through it.

Anyways, the point of the story is that I still passed. I think the only reason that I passed is because the questions that I knew, I got every single one of them right, making no dumb mistakes. I think that is the key here. I finished the test under 3 hours as well, because I just guessed on questions that I did not know (and thereby not wasting any time), and focusing on the questions that I did know.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I wanted to give you a boost of confidence. I am struggling with A4& A5 for AUD at the moment… Good luck!

@ josh. This is pretty sad but when I read your question I was thinking…warrants? I don't remember a single thing about warrants. I guess this shows it was all short-term memory for me. I think it's only 1-2 pages in the Bonds chapter in Becker. However it does have one of those lengthy, boxy examples in the Becker book and whenever I see one of those, I flag them as a potential simulation.

Do as many Bond and treasury stock problems you can get your hands on. Every exam is different but make sure you know the BIG concepts and stop focusing on the little ones like personal F/S, etc. Make sure you know how to create F/S and know the land/building J/E. In other words, redo everything over again until you have a solid understanding.

Jack my friend just took it and she said she had a ton of questions on personal FS. Its basically a game of chance.

I think no one feels great going into FAR. My advice is to know your JE's and work out all of the MCQ with calculations that you get incorrect.

I totally didn't feel ready and Becker's review was 5 weeks? Lol, with all that material, I only hope for a pass – if not, then January will retake. I suppose no one is totally ready. Too much to cover and only 10% tested on the materials to study.
