So, when I have even the slightest breakthrough with my studying I feel like I have to share it in hopes that someone else may benefit. I always felt like accounting classes would jump right into account names and debit this credit that and I never fully understood. This guy has a YouTube channel called “CPA Strength” with a playlist that takes you back to the very basics of accounting. I’m finding it primarily helpful for FAR. I’ve discovered that I may have spent too much time worrying about formulas, rules, memorizing etc. For example I can do a bond exercise from start to finish. But where I’ve been lacking was truly understanding how the entire process is supposed to flow. I’m finding with these videos, I am able to take the vast majority of what I already know well (which I would say is about 70%) and use the super basic techniques he provides to apply it in questions. He breaks it down into super simplistic terms and also provides a great deal of motivation, and not to mention he’s pretty funny. Anyway, if you’ve heard of him, I’d like to hear your feedback. If you haven’t, his channel can be found here: CPA Strength Playlist

Glad it's working for you but nobody's funnier than Roger Philipp! It's one of the few good things about his course – he's got a lot of energy and keeps you awake.

@crazyleon that's too funny b/c i have/had roger's program too. his video on capital leases was what sold me instantly. He helped me get through three exams, but I'm having such a mental block with FAR and I think I need to revisit his videos after I drill the basics into my head. 🙂

I also used Rogers program but when I got to FAR's Governmental and Non-profit areas he was way too fast to understand. I ended up looking on youtube for someone to explain it slower and found Farhat https://www.youtube.com/user/user10452

Farhat is slow and dry at explaining which is what I needed to understand Governmental and Non-profit. Once I listened to Farhat lectures then I was able to replay Roger's lectures with better understanding. I think that because FAR was my last exam I was already burned out from studying and needed a change, especially for the topic of governmental/nfp. Give it a try.

There's no crying…there's no crying in baseball, I mean, accounting.

@tennisnerd I agree. I could never grasp “accounting 101” as sad as it sounds. I excelled in Audit, Tax, Business… but you would figure that a candidate should know the basics, debit this – credit that.. I think there's an assumption there with some of the review courses. So I mastered all the rules “calculating bonds, a/r leases, etc” but couldn't put the results on the financial statements correctly which is why I needed a little bit of extra support and this guy's youtube channel did the trick. He uses very casual language and makes it entertaining. I literally googled “explain debits and credits to me like I'm 5” and that's how I found him hahahaha. He is also very motivational and gives good words of encouragement just in case anyone on here is having their undoubted moment of discouragement (I know I've been there about 30 times).

I sat for FAR yesterday but with confidence and clarity so I'm hoping for the best. I did FAR last too and experienced major burnout, but really I don't think there was any better way to take the tests in the order I chose.
