Hey everyone,

I just took FAR and I was wondering if anyone knew for sure how they weight the SIMS? I mean, I know they are worth 40% of your total score, but does anyone know if each SIM is worth equal points? Or are the Research SIMS worth less? Thanks!!

All I know is one of the sims is a pretest question and doesn't count. I would guess and say they are weighted according to difficulty . So depending on how intense the research questions are they're probably worth the fewest points.

It's my understanding that each box is worth a certain number of points. So some sims may be worth 10 points and others may be worth 2 points. That's all part of the mystery of the grading process.

No one really knows since the information we've been given on how these exams are graded is so cryptic. With that said, I would be very surprised if they were worth more than a few points. Some of the TBSs can take up to 20 minutes to do, while most of the research questions are done in about 2 minutes.

Okay so Monk, based on your response on the other thread, I understand it like this:

7 TBS. Let's say 2 are research, 3 have 20 fillable boxes that need answering, and 2 have 10 fillable boxes that need answering. The research questions are all or nothing. That means 2 + 60 + 20 total answers on the SIMs = 82. So even though you may have missed both research SIMs — TWO WHOLE SIMs out of only 7 — it could possibly just barely count against your total SIMs score depending on your performance on the other 5.

That is the conclusion I came up with based on that overly technical response from the AICPA. The conclusion being that research question's are not going to count towards your overall grade as much as most other TBS which will most likely have more than one sub question. A TBS with 4 sub questions will count 4 times more than the research question. In your example the research questions will count as 2 of the 82 points available. If this is right than this means that research questions, which can take up to ten minutes for some people, should probably be saved for last since faster points can be accumulated on your multi-question TBS's(of course this will depend on how fast you can find research answers). Going further, a person should prioritize TBS based on how many sub questions there are.
