I’m really down right now. the MCQ were all over the place. There were 2 questions on something I had never heard of before. I went through all the Becker lectures and homework 3 times. I’m not sure what else to study. This was my 4th time to take FAR. I felt really good about it in May and got a 72.

my Sims were awful. I had a DRS one and I left it for last. I had an hour to complete it. 1 whole hour. I want to say what it was, but I know I can’t. but understand I’ve been a practicing accountant for 12 years. This was something I do Every. Single. Day. I know how to do that!

There were so many documents and there was so much information on each page, I couldn’t see the top and the bottom of one page on full screen much less on split screen. Obviously you are filling in blanks of some kine on the Sims. If I did the split screen vertical, then I had to scroll back and forth to see this line is Blah Blah and the value was $123. Then try to click on the other window and figure out which blank I was supposed to put it in. You can’t click in the blank so it’s selected and then scroll across because it de-selects the blank. Then you can’t really tell what line you are on. If I tried to split screen it horizontal, The top of the picture of where the numbers and descriptions were are off the screen.

This doesn’t test my knowledge on how to record accounting entries. In real life, you could print out the documents so you can see them and then look on your entire screen and see the blanks you need to fill out.

I was so frustrated. I worked on it until there was only 2 minutes left and submitted. This was a task I do all the time and do well and I know if I could have seen the numbers on the documents AND the blanks to fill out at the same time, I could have completed it correctly. I didn’t quite cry, but almost.

I guess I could have copied the entire documents down onto my boards, BUT that would have been 30 minutes at least and with only 2 boards and 6 documents I would have had to write incredibly small.

Don't give up! I know how frustrating it is. I failed FAR three times before passing and honestly the time I passed was the time I thought I had for sure failed it (not that I didn't think that the other times, but I thought I this time I had really bombed). I was so sure I had failed that I wasn't even anxious waiting for results because I thought there was no way. You just never know. Keep your head up, you can do this!

I am sorry to hear your awful experience with FAR. This might not sound very encouraging, but I do not think you should rely on your accounting experience for any of the tests that you take. In fact, I work in audit, and I see many things that do not go by what the FAR books preach. I keep my work and my studies as two different things, in fact it really feels like I am working two totally different jobs on the weeks that I study for the tests. The fact that you can split screens at work does not mean that you can do it on this 2nd job that is to study for FAR. I recommend you to practice with the resources that the exam provides you until you feel confident, and finish everything in a considerably good time. This exam is not about knowledge, you are right on that, it is more about time and dedication. Best wishes to you.
