Okay so i’ve been struggling with FAR for a long time now. It’s just getting rediculous, I have gotten a 71, 72 and now a 73 (they have to be screwing with me at this point). I passed REG on the first try and I know I can knock out AUD and BEC once I concur FAR but now I am just stressing. As soon as I found out I failed FAR I payed for my NTS to take the test again. I’m scared to scheudle the actual exam because I want to make sure i’m prepared before taking it and not trying to cram enough time into study with work and everything else.

On top of it I accepted a new job at a public accounting firm as a senior tax associate, but i cannot move up from there until I have my CPA, obviously with busy season approaching I at least need to knock out FAR now and hopefully AUD before February.

At this point, I feel like i’m so much in my head and I don’t know how to get my confidence back. For those who were so close to passing FAR and then passed the next time, what did you do differently? I don’t want to waste any time doing anything unnecessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciatied!

    Thank you!

@davem Disagree. OP should focus on FAR until it's done. Why risk passing BEC and AUD and risk losing credit if FAR can't be passed in time. Plus the OP runs the risk of burning out no matter how much confidence they gain.

    FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
    BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
    REG - 86 (10/18/13)
    AUD - 91 (12/06/13)

It's possible that you are memorizing the answers to the Test Bank questions and that is why MCQ's are weaker. I did the same thing. Try mixing them up or do what I did, which was to write an explanation of each question I got wrong. Also write why the other 3 are wrong. If you have the Ninja audio, listen to it constantly! Work flashcards in line at the grocery store. Study CONSTANTLY! Study like your life depends on it. Because the only way you are going to get your life back is to pass!

You are really close. Just double down on the next try and I think you've got it. Scoring in the 70s means you know the material pretty well, but you're probably getting an unlucky draw of MCQs from topics you're not as proficient at. I'd focus on your weaker areas and I think you'll see a nice jump in your score next go round. You're literally a couple of right answers away from conquering it.

There was someone who posted that focusing on journal entries and sims the second time around helped boost her score by 20 points. Since your so close I would definitely take FAR this upcoming window. I like the new name of your post by the way:)

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Focus on FAR. You have the foundation so go back to square one and learn the basics and build from there. It is a beast and a formidable opponent but you are strong! You can do this. Do not give up!!

Determine your weak areas and hit them hard. You can steal extra points by nailing down Governmental, NFP and IFRS!!

If you look at my FAR testing history below, you'll find out that I also struggled a lot with it before my breakthrough. Mastering the SIMs (JEs mostly) is what helped me pass it finally. I've always scored weaker on the SIMs so I worked every possible SIMs I could obtain and it worked in the end.

My advise is that you check your score reports for all 3 attempts. If you've also scored weaker on the SIMs every time you took FAR, you should definitely focus most of your effort in mastering the SIMs. If you remember the SIMs you got on your 3 exams, write them down and practice them too because they tend to come back after you've taken the exam few times. In my last FAR exam, at least 3 or 4 of the SIMs where identical or with minor modifications as those of my previous FAR exams.

Practice the SIMs like your life depends on mastering then and you'll most likely receive good news on your next score release day.

    Good Luck!

    REG: 68, 75
    AUD: 80
    BEC: 77
    FAR: 24, 67, 69, 72, 80 Thank you Lord!!!!

FAR was, for me, the worst section by far (no pun intended). It has so much information that you have to remember, much of it areas that you won't necessarily see on the job. My first attempt I used Becker only and scored a 69. For the retake I added the WTB and went through Becker chapter by chapter typing notes for each one. I did at least 75-100 MCQs everyday and used WTB for review during the last two weeks before the exam. My score went up to an 80! You're so close that you probably need to just brush up on your weaker areas…don't give up!!!

    REG - 86
    FAR - 80
    BEC - 79
    AUD - 92...I'm done woohoo!
