Please Help – 71, 72, 73 on FAR

Okay so i’ve been struggling with FAR for a long time now. It’s just getting rediculous, I have gotten a 71, 72 and now a 73 (they have to be screwing with me at this point). I passed REG on the first try and I know I can knock out AUD and BEC once I concur FAR but now I am just stressing. As soon as I found out I failed FAR I payed for my NTS to take the test again. I’m scared to scheudle the actual exam because I want to make sure i’m prepared before taking it and not trying to cram enough time into study with work and everything else.

On top of it I accepted a new job at a public accounting firm as a senior tax associate, but i cannot move up from there until I have my CPA, obviously with busy season approaching I at least need to knock out FAR now and hopefully AUD before February.

At this point, I feel like i’m so much in my head and I don’t know how to get my confidence back. For those who were so close to passing FAR and then passed the next time, what did you do differently? I don’t want to waste any time doing anything unnecessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciatied!

    Thank you!

Not with FAR but the way I boosted my AUD score 13 points was to get the Ninja notes and rewrite them 10 pages per day.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

I have done this as well, its just so much information and i'm still failing 🙁

By the way I ALWAYS score stronger on the simulations (obviously I understand the concepts, it's the MCQ that are making me fail. How can I get out of my head and knock them out?

My friend failed FAR with a 72. If you're scoring in the low 70's, you are SO CLOSE! I think FAR is tricky due to the sheer amount of material they can test you on. Remember, most of the tested material is not in-depth so make sure you get a working understanding of each topic. The best way to test yourself is the “Do I understand the journal entries?” question. Keep grinding sets of 30 MCQ each day and figure out where you can brush up on. Also, make sure you get down gov/NFP down 100%. It's usually like ~20% of the test. It's usually the trickiest part for many people. Good luck!

    AUD: 98 (4/13)
    BEC: 84 (5/13)
    FAR: 91 (7/13)
    REG: 91 (8/13)

I scored a 69, 73, and then a 83 out of nowhere. I actually didn't do so well on the sims, but I was stronger for MCs. I suggest that you go through the ninja notes. It's very helpful because it takes all of the concepts and crammed into a few pages. Listen to jeff's audios to the point where you can remember what he's saying like lyrics to songs. And do the Mcs. Don't redo the ones you've already done. You need to do new ones. I think Wiley was a very good supplement to the becker I had.

    you can do this!

I would step away from FAR, knock out BEC or AUD to get your confidence back.

I am sure I might be the only one to tell you this…

If you passed REG, you are not doing all tat bad, you are doing great.

FAR might be beating you up but remember that you aleady nailed REG.

The bad thing is that the time is already ticking…

I would start studying BEC or AUD just for a change, open the window just to get the fresh air in…at the same time studying the FAR along the way(you are already familiar with the material).

The rule of thumb in CPA exam preparation might be “study FAR till you pass and don't look anything else”, but it can't be a concrete approach. There's gotta be a different approach to everyone else.

If you feel like you are going to jump off the building next time you fail FAR, get back inside and study something else before you end up retaking REG.

    you can do it! 🙂

Rotate sections every 45 days. You can only take each section every 90 days. So you alternate between 2 sections, until you pass one (or both), then continue on with the next one. Schedule one exam every 45 days.

@davem Disagree. OP should focus on FAR until it's done. Why risk passing BEC and AUD and risk losing credit if FAR can't be passed in time. Plus the OP runs the risk of burning out no matter how much confidence they gain.

    FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
    BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
    REG - 86 (10/18/13)
    AUD - 91 (12/06/13)
