Overwhelmed with the amount of FAR material - Page 2

I am looking for some guidance here. FAR is my last exam and I must pass it a the end of May to avoid losing BEC. I am using CPAExcel but it is really overwhelming me. There are over 1900 multiple choice questions and who knows how many SIMS. One thing I do know is my learning style. I am an experience learner and CANNOT pay attention to audio and boring videos. And reading text will put me to sleep as well. I do much better going through MCQs and learning as I do- looking up topics to read about if the answer to the MCQ doesn’t help me.

But the problem with CPAExcel for this section is that there is just TOO much material and I am getting stuck in areas and having trouble moving on. The clock is ticking and I’m just stuck.

Sorry for the rambling and I’m not even really sure what I’m asking for here. I guess if anyone that has a similar learning style as me has any advice I’d love to hear it. Thanks.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

I'm not sure that 1,900 MCQ's are “too much” given that your exam is out in May. Nineteen days at one hundred MCQ's per day, or thirty eight days at a more manageable fifty per day.

As you know more, i.e. get to the end of FAR material, the MCQ's become easier and faster to do. The idea is to do all 1,900 and then some to get an idea of the many different “looks” at the same topic.

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

I have been getting really frustrated with CPAexcel on this because their lectures don't seem to cover more than a fraction of the material that's in the reading. There's a lot of multiple choice questions, but I really wish that for things that involve entries, they had a few where they actually demonstrated working them out. My provisional plan is that for the moment, what I'm going to do is read the notes, try to distill them into a shorter bullet point outline of the key parts. Then I'm going to do the proficiency questions, then the MC questions in study mode, and I'm not going to do the MC questions in exam mode until the following day, so that I actually see what's stuck around longer than five minutes. Doing them immediately afterwards does not, for me, seem to represent very well what I'm going to remember of it in May.

I am in the same boat with needing to pass FAR…I have CPAexcel which I mainly use for learning the material but the WTB to practice MCQs. The format for continuous quizzing in practice mode is better with WTB.

    Florida:
AUD: 73, 81! Thank you Lord!
BEC: 73, 77! Thank you Lord! and WTB
REG: 71, 82! Thank you Lord! and A71
FAR: 72, 78! Thank you God and my Mommy in Heaven!

CPA Excel, Ninja Notes & Audio, Wiley Test Bank, CPAreviewforfree

@notaquitter I took FAR for my first exam and used CPAExcel. I may not have the same learning style as you, but I also went through the dilemma of moving at a snail pace. I was so focused on getting every bit of every information possible, then realized this was impossible. I only had a month and a half to study, but ended up passing anyway. My best advice as others have mentioned on here is not to get bogged down in the detail. I'm a textbook type of learner, but for CPAExcel that would be impossible ( 2 BOOKS!). I followed lectures and took notes to keep my mind engaged. After completing all modules for 5 weeks, I gave myself a week to review, going through MCQ, most SIMS twice and reviewing my notes. I studied probably about 4-5 hours a night with some doubling on weekends.

It is definitely possible; you just need to keep at it. In the end everything will start to come together.

    Best of luck to you!

    FAR - 89 02/27/14
    REG - 88 04/30/14
    AUD - 90 7/3/14
    BEC - 87 8/30/14 DONE!

I am also using CPAExcel and am finding the massive amount of material difficult to remember and I have only made it to PPE. I am also finding that when I use other test banks like CPAreviewforfree they seem more challenging. I am going to change up my approach and read the text and then do as many MCQs and Sims as possible from both sources. How I am going to remember all of this crap from now until July is another story.
