When would be a good time to start studying for the CPA exam? I’m currently using Wiley CPA online test banks, and Becker CPA videos and books (I don’t have access to the Becker online). I’m feeling discouraged since I’m getting 50’s on the Wiley test banks, and I find myself stressing out on the intensity of the material. Is it too early to start stressing considering I’m only a junior in college? I figured I’d start studying since I recently completed all the coursework and topics that pertains to the FAR section of the CPA exam. In addition, I have the following general questions:’m currently a junior in college and already started studying for the FAR section of the CPA exam. My current study aids are Wiley

1)What’s your advise for on how to approach topics your are week in?

2)Do you need to be a genius to pass the CPA exam (I am extremely average)?

3)Do you know any good tutors in Queens NY?

You need to be exceptionally determined and willing to give 200% to pass the exam, other than that you dont need to be a genius.

I wouldn't study much more than 2-3 months for each section, really 8 weeks tops. This exam is an exercise in short term memory and very few people remember what they studied more than 8 weeks ago. There are a handful of people who treat this like you should study for a year before starting the exams but they are few and far between.

If you're a junior right now I'd be more worried about aligning your courses with the exams (i.e. if you still need to take an auditing class, take it during your final semester and plan to sit for AUD shortly after you finish that course).

Hi Jsperber! Welcome to the forum!

I agree with mla. You have to be really determined and focused if you want to succeed. I would try not to stress out about the exam and try to look at it as another course or as a supplement to your current curriculum. I wish I had the opportunity to have taken the exam while in college when the material is fresh. Try to align the parts according to your college schedule and enjoy the experience. Anytime is good to start studying for the CPA exam. Just embrace it, stay positive and most important (at least tome), stay focused.
