Hello,

My name is Pete and I sat for the FAR section of the exam this past Saturday. I attempted to score myself as I went along as follows. For each multiple choice sections I wrote down how sure I was I got it correct. Obviously the lowest % I would write is 25% if I completely guessed. If I narrowed it down to 2 answers I wrote 50% and so on. If I knew it for sure I would write 100%. If was confident in my answer but not 100% sure I would write 80% or 90%. I think you get the picture.

On the first set of 30 out of a possible 3000…I got 2345…roughly 78%. I am 100% sure the question got harder on the 2nd 30 question and my total came to1910…roughly 64%. I am 100% certain the final 30 got easier and my total out of 3000 came to 2470…roughly 82%.

For the SIMS-

#1- 90% correct

#2- 50% correct

#3- 100 % correct

#4- 90% correct

#5- 75% correct

#6- 80% correct

#7- 50% correct.

Now I completely understand that when factoring in that all the questions I got right could have been ones that didn’t count and I could have just guessed wrong each time… I am just baffled by the metrics of how they score it… and yes I know it has nothing to do with the % you got correct… does anyone have a guess of there is any chanced I passed?

@CPAhereIam It was always you, Helen!!!!! Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I was 10 when that movie came out in 1992, I was worried that I was dating myself with a Candyman reference! My older sister was “kind” enough to let me watch that movie with her as a kid and she has no clue why I'm terrified of bees! 😉 I watched it again on cable and I did have to giggle at some of the “special effects” circa 1992 but it's still pretty scary if you ask me!

HAHA Love Jeff's comment! I can't imagine having the time to figure this out, especially during FAR. I had approximately 30 seconds to spare when I finished FAR.

@pmarsocci, don't feel bad! I do the same thing in my head while testing. For some reason, it just helped me feel more in control even though it was meaningless. If you want something to compare to (even though it's still meaningless), I always estimated a raw % correct on the testlets somewhere around 65-75%, depending on the section. And my guesstimates for SIMS were similar to yours, except REG, which was much worse.

It's no big surprise that some accountant brains would function that way. I always did it for college exams, too. I will say it worked much better for college exams compared to the CPA exam. If it makes you feel more in control of yourself and the exam, have at it!

Wishing a failing grade is definitely not cool. OP, if you were able to memorize all this information, I dont think you had a problem of memorizing 80% of what is on FAR, so I think you pass. This exam is more memory than anything else.
