So im half way through Reg and feel this section should be my best section, im not cocky, i just work in tax, but I feel since i failed Far by 5 points without completing it, like 3 sims fully blank that I would have passed if i didnt allot only 35 minutes to the sims, idk what i was thinking, i got stressed and just messed up on time management. I strongly feel i would have passed had i stuck to my time goals. Am I being a wishful thinker and should just stick to Reg and retake Far right afterwards or study both together or just study Far?

PS. I also probably missed the research question since I used the search function and clicked one randomly in 30 seconds, Im a horrible person I know, trust me, I know.

Study for REG only, go out and pass the heck out of it, then start studying for a FAR retake from the beginning.

Maybe if you'd had more time to finish the last 3 sims you would have passed. Maybe taking time away from other sections to finish those sims would have caused the first section scores to fall. You'll never know.

Start studying again and take a couple of practice tests to make sure you're aware of the time constraints. Set a time budget for the test and stick to it.

I appreciate the feedback, my problem was that under high stress i kill time for no reason like, like i never changed an answer that i put the first time, then the stress of 7 huge sims in 35 minutes made me work slower not faster, I feel like I know the material pretty well and was mad they didnt test 75% of what i knew, only gov accounting was important to them lol.

So studying both is a poor strategy? how well does one retain information? because i feel like i still know most of it but do not want to waste time spinning my tires.

If you felt like you knew the FAR information pretty well and just need to focus on time management, I'd have a hard time/or be worried about letting that information seep out of my brain while I'm studying a new topic AND THEN have go back and re-learn all of it again. BUT I would also have a difficult time throwing away the work I've already put into the new section I'm studying.

Honestly, I think this comes down to how YOU work/function. I couldn't handle two sections at once, but I think there are people that exist that can study different topics and manage to keep it separate and nail them both. Are you working in addition to studying or is studying your main priority right now?

and timing tip on the TBS, and I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I allocate 15 minutes to each SIM. The first thing I did was go find the research one and get it knocked out. Knowing that the research one should be the quickest one, I'll have it done it out of the way and any time I saved on it can be put towards the other SIMs. Then I quickly glanced over the other 6 SIMs and knocked them out as I found topics I was comfortable with. The first SIM I read I could've sworn was in a foreign language, so I went and worked on other ones. Once I was done with the others and my brain had calmed down, I went back to the first one and it didn't seem so overwhelming.

Study hard for REG, take it early in the window then start restudying FAR and get it at the end of the window. Lots of people pass 2 or even more tests in a window. Don't let your Far knowledge fade!!

thanks guy will do, Im a full time worker, but only 23 so ive got my youthful energy….sort of… its fading. I just wish I knew how much ill forget between now and Jan 1st-2nd for FAR, I have to get both knocked out before February because busy season starts back up for me.

and studying 2 topics at once always killed me in college , so thats probably not the solution although i feel 100x more mature in the studying/work area than before

Biggest mistake on the cpa exam is leaving something blank. Never ever ever ever ever ( i can write “ever: a million more times) leave a sim blank, enter all zeros if you have to. You dont know how many times the correct answer is zero, zeros are place holders instead of blanks. For example if their is no answer to a question then the instructions say enter a zero. Also any specific reason you ran out of time, didnt pace yourself? That key in this exam, when i first studied for FAR i took on average 3 to 3.5 minutes. I then noticed that you dont get that much time per question, i set my mind to answer as fast as possible and brought my time down. Additionally do not get caught up on a question, flag it and keep moving, once you finish the testlet come back to the flags and do your best, once in a while you know that theirs just no way you will get the answer then guess. I just took REG and their were several questions that i was scratching my head as to were to start, i flagged those and moved on, my thought process is that if its that hard! it has to be one that gets eliminated, so don't waste 5-6 minutes on a question that boggles your mind because chances are it wont count anyways, its such a killer. Dont lose hope, best of luck, we are all rooting for you.
