Cannot do Becker SIMS!

    Hi everyone,

I am very depressed and hoping someone was as SIMs challenged as I am. I have been studying for FAR for 4 weeks. The MCQs can be challenging, but I see improvement and can imagine passing if that were the only part of the exam.

I’m using Becker and am completely overwhelmed by the sims. I just tried another one, it took me 40 minutes and I only got one box filled in correctly. I really tried! I watch the videos after to see how the instructor solved them. They make it look so simple. But when faced with 8 exhibits, all very wordy and full of facts- I just cannot imagine how to get these done correctly and efficiently.

Has anyone else overcome this problem?? I’m beginning to wonder if maybe I’m not cut out to be a CPA.

    It’s never too late 🙂

Just keep working at it, and keep watching the videos.
    Eventually it will click.
I remember having those same feelings.
There were some sections that I just completely scrapped and started over from the beginning because it was not sinking in. Eventually, with enough practice, you will start to get it.
Just need to connect those dots. FAR is an animal in that way.

Some of the material I do feel I know, but can’t keep track of all the details. Or make a stupid mistake…did you find that part got better? The reading comprehension and knowing how to sort through and analyze all those exhibits in 20 minutes? I’m 55 and do so much better with stacks of real paper, not exhibits on one screen) (Thank you for your response btw!)

Protip – request the paper and pencil accommodation from the NASBA, and confirm with your local prometric that the accommodation was received a week before your exam, so they have time to sort it out when it's inevitably not received.

I also prefer a stack of paper to the electronic documents, but it is what it is for the exam.
You'll get faster with practice. Just keep pushing forward.

I spent a good 5-10 minutes researching and answering a question they didn't ask on FAR, LOL!
Devil is in the details is so true for this exam. Read VERY carefully and only search out the exact answers they are looking for.
Have you tried the AICPA sample SIMs?

Not yet- I need to try that. I hear the sims on the exam and the AICPA site are harder than Becker, didn't want to get more discouraged 🙁
