Perhaps I am an idiot, but here goes nothing…

I used Wiley Test Bank for AUD in the second quarter and I remember a lot of people complaining that it did not register the first choice, but it instead registered whichever choice was “bubbled” when you moved on to the next question…. ok, that was fine and I used to flag ones that I got wrong as a means of calculating % of correct first responses on my own.

Fast forward to today. I’ve been using it for 2 months for REG. After activating it for REG, I noticed on the homepage that only “first responses would be recorded.” What I realized today was that first responses is the first bubble that you choose, not the first answer you actually move on from to get to the next question. So if you choose B and then change your mind to C and hit next question, even though you got the question correct because you changed your mind before moving on to the next question, it still registers that very first choice as your choice.

I apologize if this does not make sense, but this is irking me beyond everything right now. Here I’ve been for the last 2 weeks, not seeing any progress and thinking “damn, I thought I did better than that” and it turns out, I have no way to gauge how I’ve been doing… anybody else notice this?

That drives me nuts also! Once I realized what it was doing, I changed the way I answer and just make sure I am 100% sure before I click an answer choice. I def understand the frustration. I wish they would just show the explanation when I click if they are calculating based on the first click, ya know? That would save several clicks to read each answer explanation.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I guess my frustration is just compounded because I thought the “disclaimer” on the homepage was a notice that they corrected the first problem with scoring. Instead, to me, it seems they've made it worse. And i've been studying all this time without realizing this. Arrggggg. Anyway, rant over. 🙂

Over the past couple weeks I've noticed a difference in the way they grade as well. You're not the only one. If I had more time to be angry about it I would 😉 I just buckled down and put faith in the fact that even if it shows I got a question wrong, that hopefully the correct response they are providing me with to review is right.

I don't like this either! I liked the old way of the CD where did didn't count your answer until you clicked forward. I usually mark the ones I really got wrong so I can keep my own track of things.

I have noticed this as well today, hadn't really paid much attention to it before this was mentioned. I was on the original Wiley student advisory board when this change was asked for and implemented and I emailed them today with this information. Hopefully they can direct it to the proper department and see about getting that corrected.

Thanks Beth as usual. The change from “first clicked answer” to answer selected when you “first click Next” was to have gone live right when Sandy hit the East Coast. Our IT and QA staff were affected and the rollout postponed. I'll check on the new rollout date this week (~ Peter).

P.S. The change to “first click” was due to overwhelming user request after the new Online Test Bank platform went live in January 2012 as users wanted to be able to cycle through all the answer choices to see incorrect explanations. In January after launch many users complained they ended up with 100% correct scores because they worked the answers/explanations until they hit the correct and went to the next question giving them correct answers on every question. The idea was that by moving to “first click” users would have both a true score and be able to cycle through the explanations. The tweak to make it the “first click Next” should be the best balance of user needs for this functionality.

Thanks Peter, looking forward to this fix! Although hopefully I won't need it after Friday 😉

Also looking forward to this fix–those who want to cycle through could still do so, then click the answer they'd originally thought was correct before moving on.

Awesome to hear a fix is coming!! When the change was first made it took me a while to realize what was happening. I generally mark a bubble when I think it's a possibility and then change it if I read a better answer. I was testing in the 40%s and had no idea why!!

So now is it back to counting the final answer you hit next on as the correct answer, even if you got it incorrect the first time you hit next? I just did a session and got a one hundred on it even though I know I missed some during the session. I changed my answer to the correct one in order to read the full explanation. I guess if I get it wrong and change to the correct answer I have to remember to change it back to the wrong one before moving on in order to have it counted as a wrong answer?

I have the same problem. I knew I missed one or two and I made a 100%. This needs to be fixed.

Selecting the wrong answer in order to move on to the next question and get the correct score is not helpful.
