Wiley Software for SIMS Problem

Ok, I’ve been using the Wiley software and it’s great for MCQ’s, but it seems to really suck for SIMS.

For example: I was working on a foreign currency translation problem and the answer to one of the problems was -260.40 so when I enter that in, the software marks it wrong because the correct answer is (260.4). It won’t accept the -260.40 as an answer. Ok, no big deal. I know I’m really right. I move to another part of the same problem and this time I try to enter it with (parentheses), but then it won’t even let me enter the (parentheses). The right answer pops up immediately when I try to enter the (parentheses). What is up with that? It marked 2 of my answers wrong because of format even though I entered the correct numbers or tried to.

Is it like this at the actual exam? This is my first exam so it has me wondering about whether they’ll mark an answer wrong because I enter 240.60 instead of 240.6

Is anyone else having this issue with Wiley SIMS? It’s marked a lot of my answers wrong because of this, and when I try to change to their format it gives me errors, etc. It just seems to be really bad software for SIMS.

    Thanks for letting me vent!

Wiley does have the problems you've described on the SIMS. Also, sometimes it will let you input your answer but say it's incorrect because it's in the wrong order if it's a formula. This isn't an issue on the exam. You're right – Wiley's great for MCQ but mediocre at best for SIMS.

At first, I thought the wiley SIMS totally sucked. However, I am starting to appreciate them more and more now that I have done a bunch more. The Wiley SIMS are bringing up totally different formats and questions than what I experienced under the Becker SIMS. It is making me look at different topics in different ways and preparing me for any kind of SIM i could see on the exam.

I think there is a key point that a lot of people seem to be missing on these review materials: these MCQ and SIMS are just additional review materials that help prepare you for the exam. Who cares if it marks your question wrong because you put -260 instead of (260). It doesnt matter (since the real exam will either give you instructions on how to format your response or will allow either answer as an acceptable response). What really matters is whether or not you are understanding the concepts and can apply it under various scenarios. Everyone just needs to relax about what “scores” they are seeing on these practice exams. Focus on CONTENT.

You're right minimorty. A lot of people put way too much emphasis on their sample exam scores instead of how well they actually know the material. However, while the content of the Wiley SIMS is good, there is room for improvement. I just started doing them all in study mode because I got fed up going thru the answers to figure out why I missed a problem when I'd just put variables in a different order or hadn't included sufficient digits in my answer.

Kb24, Is wiley s/w different from Wiley book? I ask this because I am supplementing Becker with Wiley book.

Wondering if Wiley s/w and book are same?

does the order of answers for questions in the software change around?

There is some overlap between the software and the text, but it's minimal. I liked the test bank MCQ for my review because it got me used to the format I'd see on the exam, it was faster than the text, I got immediate feedback on my answer if I used the study mode, I could create an exam that tested what I wanted to work on (e.g. certain topic, questions I'd never seen, questions I'd missed a certain number of times, or some combination of these), and it helped me increase my speed which is essential for most of the exams. The SIMS had their issues (as described above), but the content of them was good.

@killaking – As I said above, an issue with the SIMS is that it will mark an answer incorrect even though it's right if it doesn't exactly match the one in the test bank as far as order of variables and format of numbers. As long as you are aware of this and focus on how well you know the content rather than the score from the test bank, they are helpful.

@killaking – Sorry, misunderstood your question. Wiley doesn't, but I think Gleim does.
