Wiley or Becker?

I’ve failed BEC twice using Becker — I feel like all I do is memorize stuff with Becker and I don’t really know how to do the calculations. I always go into the test feeling like I know what I’m doing because I’ve memorized a bunch of formulas, but I’ve come out both times with a 72%. I figured I would try a new review course and I’ve heard a lot of people say that Wiley is really good. I was just wondering how Wiley works – do they have video lectures like Becker or do you have to read pretty much everything? Do they have homework/simulations like Becker? I’d also like to hear if anyone who dumped Becker for Wiley did better on their tests or felt more confident about what they were learning. Thanks!

I believe everyone should supplement their CPA review course with a Wiley book. It has so much good info and alot of practice questions for like 35 dollars!

Try Yaeger or Roger. I personally used Yaeger and found cost accounting a breeze after.

I used Becker exclusively and felt it was excellent. That said, my firm paid for it — if I had to pay for it myself, I'd definitely go a cheaper route and take a course that would help me pass for less money.

Hoss – You almost had a perfect score in all your exams, what do you eat?? I finally decided to take my CPA and enrolled for Becker Live classes. Taking the AUD section in April. Any tips on tackling the material? After class I do the homeworks and then read the material and redo the homework. This was my first week and it didnt seem to bad but keep in mind that it was only one chapter:) Starting next week, it would be 2 chapters per class so I am already in panic mode…any advice?? Thanks in advance..

I would advise you to go with Yaeger. They are pretty good at explaining things. They seem to always be available too well except for Gary. )-:

I used Becker for BEC and I passed. With that said, much of the content on the exam wasn't covered in Becker; I had to rely on knowledge I've acquired over the years through work and school, and on some damn good guessing. BEC was like the Twilight Zone. I highly recommend that you supplement Becker.

By the way, I took BEC in 2010 using Becker's 2010 materials. It is possible that the 2011 ones are better.

Becker isn't great for REG (2011) either, but it was awesome for AUD (2010).

    AUD - 95, BEC - 85
    REG - 85, Rawrrrrrr FAR - 88
    Used Becker for all sections.

Soon2beCPA – I used MDS CPA Review and found it to be a very helpful study system. I passed all four parts on my first time through averaging about a 90 while working a very strenuous work schedule. The problem that I foresaw with Becker and Wiley is that there is an apparent “information overload” with their materials; consequently, you are likely to find yourself over-studying and having an inefficient study regime for the exam. MDS was able to break the information down into what was actually needed to pass the exam.
