Wiley MCQ’s vs Becker’s MCQ’s – huge difference???

I recently bought Wiley online test bank to supplement what I was doing with Becker. Has any one noticed a difference in the difficulty of questions – at least for FAR. I’m pulling off high 90’s in all Wiley tests – including SIMs and barely ever break above a 79 in Becker. Not sure how to take this? Is Becker ridiculously hard or is Wiley ridiculously easy? Wiley makes me feel like I can actually pass this exam. Becker has me feeling that after 7 months of studying I may still very well flunk.

Similar threads – but some had opposite experience.

    Just keep rocking MCQs.

I did not use Becker but I thought that the Wiley MC were much harder than the actual MC on the FAR exam. I rarely scored over a 70 on Wiley prior to the exam and I passed with an 80. I think your pretest scores are awesome. Have you covered all of the material? The fact that you have studied for 7 months and are scoring so well on your MC makes me think that you are ready for this exam.

Yeah or you memorized all the Wiley questions because you've been studying them for so long. Regardless 79 in Becker is good, don't know why ur freakin.

I actually thought Wiley questions were harder than Becker's. Maybe because I thought Becker provided a better explanation for the answers? Idk.

Btw, studying FAR for 7 months is a bit too much. You do know that Becker expires right?

I have been doing MCQ's using only Becker for months. I just recently bought Wiley online test bank and all the Wiley questions I've been doing have only been the last few weeks. It's not that I've memorized them. Becker questions often seem to be calculations that take me 5-7 minutes to do and Wiley are – at least what I've been exposed to so far – a lot of theory questions. I'm definitely not freaking out just curious as to what the exam will be like in relation to the two – they seem so different. I have two kids with homework and sports to get through plus work full time for a CPA firm – it takes me weeks to get through one chapter – so no 7 months is not a lot. I just can't go any faster. Not sure what I'll do once I get through FAR. I won't have the luxury of taking as long as necessary to get through the material but I'll worry about that when I get there. Not sure how people are getting through this with job and kids. I'm barely surviving.

No, not a huge difference. I think Wiley MCQs are slightly simpler overall. Also, Becker tends to reenforce key concepts while with Wiley you get more variety and some of the more obscure questions. They both pull most of their questions from prior exams so you do get a lot of redundancy.

I thought it was a great supplement and totally worth the cheap price Jeff sells them for.

Totally agree. I think Wiley is worth every penny. I feel like drawing from two different test banks has given me a more varied exposure – and I will take all the help I can get. 🙂

I haven't used Becker, but Wiley was great far FAR.The questions were (I felt) slightly harder than what shows up on test day for the mediums. Some of the harder ones are comparable. Overall it's worked great for me.

Came across this thread after a search…

I'm under the overwhelming opinoin that on MCQ to MCQ basis, Wiley is waaaay harder than Becker for FAR. It seems like 80% of the questions are computational, and difficult ones at that. I'm about 2/3's the way through all of the Wiley questions so maybe they front load the computational questions?

    Any other thoughts on this?

I used to use Becker, but I like Wiley too.

    I used both for FAR.

Becker's questions were more difficult to both calculate and also had more misleading traps in them.

Wiley had much easier to calculate questions, and not so many spins on them, but covered many more areas in depth.

So when I worked all the Wiley questions I had to learn a bunch of new stuff, it added another 100 + hours or so of studying to learn it all.

Was it worth it? Oh ya! It saved my bass.

I also must say that I think the difficulty of the questions I experienced on the exam was much closer to Wiley.

I think at least for me, it was easier to get frustrated using the Becker material, because they would put so many twists and turns into a question that it was really easy to understand the material really well and still get it wrong. So you'd end up spending a lot of time figuring out a calculation that you understood really well. IMHO this is not a good investment of time. But yes you have to read all the questions carefully.

Wiley of course covers areas to an extra level of depth. Is this a waste of time? Not really but its a big extra investment in terms of time. When you get down to the nitty grity of the FAR exam because of the limits of the test, they can really only test main topics and maybe 5% of the detail, of what you've actually learned and prepared for. The thing is there is so much they can test you on, and you can't predict what its going to be. So I say go in knowing more is better.

Becker freely admits that they groom their material down to cover most of what is on the exam. So if you don't have as much time to study, maybe Becker might be better.

Of course cost is also an issue. In my opinion plain and simple Becker over charges. Its been acquired by one of these bogus degree mill schools, and they extract lots and lots of money from you.

    Passed all 4

If I can pass, you can too!
