Wiley CPAExcel Post-Merger Differences?

    Hi All,

I was ready to purchase RogerCPA review but found he made changes this year (his own test bank, etc) and had not read enough reviews to feel comfortable taking the chance and purchasing it.

I then decided to purchase CPAExcel and found they too have made some changes! (merged with Wiley).

Can anyone provide their experiences with Wiley CPAExcel post-merger? I don’t care so much about the videos but am mostly interested in the text. Is it as good as the CPAExcel text was hailed to be? Or is it now too cumbersome (as the Wiley text was reported to be). How is the test bank?

And if anyone can speak to the new Roger materials, that would be great as well.

Any details would be greatly appreciated!

The test bank has some major issues that they say will be fixed in the next update sometime this summer. Knowing what I know now, I would have never purchased the test bank from Wiley. I bought it before the merger and subsequent makeover of the test bank. I am using the Wiley books and they aren't bad, I read it (REG) and it is what it is, a huge book with a ton of information in it.

    REG - 86
    FAR - 74,
    BEC - 72,
    AUD -73,

I don't like the new Wiley test bank, I changed over to the Ninja MCQ. Previously, I used the legacy Wiley to pass FAR and AUD, and Ninja MCQ to pass BEC. I also read the Wiley books plus the Ninja combo (audio, notes, flashcards) and for REG I purchased the Roger CRAM. I think it's around 10 hours of lectures, I just wanted to ensure I'd pass on the first try and be done with this exam. I have heard iffy things about the Roger questions and test bank, but do not know from personal experience. Good luck to you!

I would recommend the NiNJA mcq. The CPAExcel test bank doesn't have a calculator feature. I called the help desk and they couldn't seem to locate the calculator either. I am still trying to figure out NINJA but so far I like it. Does anyone know if there is an option to pause the test and come back later?

@bailey: I can't speak to the book that you will receive from CPAExcel as I got mine before the merger, but the video's are really good and I rarely use my study text. I have found the videos, proficiency and exam questions, along with supplementing with Ninja MC has been plenty sufficient to have me prepared.

@Amber: Is the CPAExcel test bank that you are talking about the EQ's inside the lesson or something else? If it is the EQ's then you can click the calculator button at the top next to the exit button. If not, just ignore me. 🙂

    FAR - 79
    BEC - 72, 79
    REG - 75
    AUD - 84

@kujayhawks02 I think we have pretty much the same study method. That is all I have used. I don't use the text much and only have the online version. As far as post merger changes, I haven't really noticed any. The video player changed but that was for the better and had no effect on content.

Thank for the feedback everyone! I hadn't even considered supplementing with Ninja MCQ. I am going to search the forum for some info on the Ninja product.

Now I am wondering if I should even purchase Wiley CPAExcel. Do you think just Wiley books plus Ninja MCQ would do the trick? I am not even certain that the Wiley books and Wiley CPAExcel books are any different?

    Really appreciate the help!!

The Wiley books and the Wiley CPAexcel books are different. Its pretty much the same product from before but different cover. CPAexcel portion will have the videos, and the questions that they have. The Wiley portion is still the Wiley books and the testbank. Which most people do not like the new testbank. If you go with just CPAexcel as your review course then I would buy the Ninja MCQ to supplement. They are cheaper and much better than the Wiley Testbank.

Just the Wiley books and Ninja MCQ would be a cheaper option if you don't care to have videos. There have been people that have been successful in just reading the Wiley textbook and doing questions and passed on the first try. In the end its all about how you learn and then putting in the time.

    Good Luck!

    AUD - 73, 72 retake 7/2/2016
    BEC - 8/20/2016

    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

I bought CPAexcel last October so have used it before and after. I passed FAR and REWG with it but I watch every videom read all the text, and do all the practice, MCQs, and Sims. I really like it.

    FAR - Passed (2/14)
    REG - Passed (5/14)
    Audit - Passed (8/14)
    BEC - 8/31

I called Wiley CPAExcel today and this is what I found out.

There is a Study Text included with the review. This is the old CPAExcel books pre-merger.

You can supplement your review by purchasing the Wiley CPAExcel CPA Study Guides. These are the old Wiley books. Their comment on the new test bank is that they are new questions compiled after the merger – they are not the same as the old Wiley test bank.

I am starting to think it would be a waste of time to spend $1000 on self-study review course since I won't use videos or slides. Especially since I was going to supplement with Wiley books – why have 2 sets of books?

I like Rugger's idea of just using Wiley books plus Ninja MCQ. Thank you!

@kujayhawks02, I believe it was just the practice test. I ended up going back and using the old test bank.
