Anyone have any history on this? Is this correct in general? Did you score roughly 60-65 and pass the REG exam? And does this 60 number represent the average percent correct on the practice questions or is it a score on the Wiley practice exam?

My first time through the material and doing MC questions, I was probably in the 50-60% range. Some chapters, lower. Some chapters, a little higher.

However, I reworked my MC questions at least twice, if not three times.

AUD - 93
BEC - 80
REG - 86
FAR - 83

o.O I would suggest well above 60+. So, yes, I'm sure successful candidates were scoring above 60, but I'd guess they were also scoring above 70. I passed all my exams on my first try and had trending scores in the low 70's on practice questions or above (I think one was like 72 or 73 and I was worried but passed; others were higher).

Well heres the thing, I did the whole wileycpaexcel course and now I'm doing the test bank. I started out trending around 65ish and now I'm trending in the lower 70's-75ish with an average at 69% overall now with 1/3 of the questions completed. I still have 5 days of full study planned before the exam. I'm just worried that although I'm improving, it's not by enough. At this pace I will be trending in the upper 70's(maybe low 80's) by exam day with an avg in the low 70's most likely. how worried should i be exactly?

more questions = more experience with topics, try to finish all of the questions then you can worry about score. The first time I took far I think I did about 600 questions which is not alot and failed. Do more questions!

My experience so far has been to add 10 pts to my mcq practice questions, so yes OP, that sounds about right.

BDMatt – Your scores sound similar to mind 5 days out, and your expectations of their increase sound about right, so I'd say you're on track to do well. 🙂 Try to get through the rest of the questions before your exam and you should be OK.

On all of my exams, I have scored at least 10 points higher on the exam than I averaged on the Wiley Test Bank.

I've used Wiley's test bank and CPA Excel for all 4 tests. For REG and AUD I was trending around 75% on the test bank questions and scored 83 on the actual exams. I was scoring a little over 70% on FAR and I think I did well on that exam. I'm awaiting the results. So scoring in the upper 60's should be sufficient to pass the exam.

The issue is that certain subjects are tested more frequently than others, so if you're scoring in the 50's on Corporate Tax (or some other heavily test area) and scoring in the 70's on the “smaller” sections, you might not pass the exam if you do really poorly on Corp Tax.

I was scoring in the low 60's for FAR and scored 85 on the exam… it doesn't mean a ton. Of course you don't want to be scoring in the 20's, but 60+ and you're usually okay. But it also depends on the exam! It's more of a crap shoot.

I have the Wiley test bank to Supplement Gleim. I've only taken AUD and BEC, but here are my actual scores vs total Wiley score for each:

AUD: Wiley- 70% Actual Exam- 93

BEC: Wiley- 71% Actual Exam- 81 (this is with leaving the last written question completely blank)

Seems everyone scores higher than their percentages on the practice questions.

AUD- 93
BEC- 81
FAR- 1/26/2015
REG- TBD

Here was my experience with the Wiley TB (took three practice exams before the actual exam):

REG: 82, 85, 87 —- Actual: 82

BEC: 91, 90, 93 —Actual: 85

AUD: 87, 86, 83 —Actual: 95

Didn't have a chance to do WTB for FAR. But overall, if you are scoring in the 80s, you have a good shot!!

I'm very surprised that you scored higher on Wiley TB than on the actual exam. Was Wiley the main study course that you used?

Although I don't think this is a common occurrence, I was scoring 60 on Ninja MCQ and ended up with a 75 in REG.

I realize it's not Wiley, but I have found many of the questions are similar since they tend to be the AICPA released questions.

I was probably scoring around or below 60% on average. I worked through all the problems once and then worked through the ones I got wrong a second time after studying everything again in between. I just barely passed though (76) and I walked out 100% convinced that I had failed, to the point that when I was talking with my mom after the test – who's the type that normally goes ‘eh, you always do better than you think, don't worry' – she told me for the first time in my life ‘it's okay if you failed, you can just take it again, if you need help paying for a retake just let me know, etc.'

In summary, I'm guessing it's not unreasonable to say that getting ~60% on the MCQ might be about where a good chunk of people start to pass, but I would recommend giving yourself a little safety room and working problems until you can get up to 70%. (I think they actually recommend 80% but I do think that's overkill. I scored 80%+ in maybe two sections with Wiley for BEC with most sections in the 65-70 range and ended up with a 91.)
