    I’m finding the quality of the Wiley answer explanations to be pretty poor, especially when you get something like this:

    “This answer is incorrect because one reply is incorrect.”

    Why even bother?

    I like some of the other features of the online test bank (particularly being able to select questions not seen yet), but the answer explanations don’t come anywhere near the quality of Becker.

    I just needed to vent.. back to AUD!

    Does Becker have an explanation for every single incorrect answer?

    The Wiley questions are licensed from the AICPA and not every answer choice warrants an explanation…it's just wrong and there's nothing to expand on because it's pretty straightforward.

    I don't know what question you're referring to, but I thought I'd toss that out there. If there's one (or many) that really warrants more of an explanation – email me and I'll send it to the Wiley team.

    Usually if the question has two or more columns (i.e. Review and Audit) and four sets of yes/no answers, each of the three wrong answers will have an “explanation” like the one I posted (although I guess sometimes it must say that both replies are incorrect). Only the correct answer has an actual explanation.

    Flipping through my audit text, Becker usually has a complete sentence comment explanation for each answer (right or wrong). Sometimes there's a long explanation for the correct answer which will cover the incorrect answers. I'm not seeing any with the “yes/no” format so I can't make a direct comparison there.

    I don't remember there being such a big difference with the FAR questions, so maybe it's because AUD is more conceptual. I just don't have as many “ah ha!” learning moments with the Wiley explanations as I do with Becker. If I find some good examples of what I'd consider to be “light” explanations I will definitely email them to you.

    Thanks.

    Oh, I do have a suggestion though – it would be helpful if you could read the explanations for the wrong answers even if you select the correct one first.

    @AnitaNC,

    I would think that explanations to wrong answers might be too much information. I like the fact that Wiley supply an explanation even though they don't have an explanation to every wrong or right answer. But anyway, I found that when I get too much information the choice becomes more difficult. So maybe no explanation compared to the right explanation maybe enough. So when I am in a situation with no explanation and still can't grasp the concept with the provided explanation, I go back to the text and re-read. Hope this helps.

    I am studying today. I do not have an excuse, I will be ready for Far in January. Yes it is the holiday, but If I get enough done I can feel good about visiting with my children (3) home from college. Yes…children home from college and of course they slept most of the day (since breakfast) so I still have plenty of time before the festivities begin…classic movies (fred astaire, ginger rogers), popcorn, holiday music, etc. I need fellow ninja energy…please

    Ya..honestly Wiley never did it for me either. The BEST McQ system I found was from exammatrix. Their explanation system includes both explanation and direct quotes from either their literature, or standards. I swear by their system. Check it out.
