    Wiley Question –

I’m finishing up my first week of studying for FAR. I’ve covered 8 sections of the exam and I’m scoring 50’s-60’s. I’ve been doing MCQ practice sessions all week long and did pop quizzes today. In order to stay on track with my study plan I need to move to new sections this week. Should I be worried or is this to be expected? Any suggestions/tips?

Don't worry about it. It's expected when you're going on your first round of MCQs. I've been scoring 65 to 70 until today. Now I've been scoring 85 to 90. I'm working on a practice test right now, hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

Scores on MCQ are typically inflated. Inevitably, there will be questions that you are 50/50 on and you guess right. This will give you a sense of security when none should exist. You need to be confident that you know the answers when going through the questions. The point of doing MCQ is NOT what score you get at the end, but the self diagnosis you should be giving yourself as you do them. If you are unsure of an answer, then you should spend more time in that area.

@jomarie: Thanks for the reassurance! 🙂

@Minimorty: I'm definitely doing a self-diagnosis and there are some areas that I'm not completely confident that I could recall during an exam. Should I spend more time on sections like that right now or should I wait for my final review so that it's fresh?

If you are only in your first week of studying you should get through all the material at least once. Then really start focusing on your weak areas.

You are supposed to suck on your first tests.

When I started on AUD, I scored in the 50's. By the time I finished my 26th test, I was scoring in the 80's.

Just keep pounding away at the MCQ's.

DO NOT MEMORIZE the question, just learn why the answer is correct and why the others are not.
