I passed my final section in February. However, I didn’t get a degree in accounting so I had to go the long way to fill the hours to sit. I need 6 hours of upper division for the license. I discovered the courses offered by UNA through Wiley and it seems like a much cheaper and more convenient option if it will work. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of these courses?

    Hello,

You and I are in the same exact boat. I passed my final section of the CPA exam in February too (mine was FAR, squeezed by with a 75). I only had an Associate's accounting Degree, and a bachelor's in Economics, so yes i also needed the extra credits for the license.

Anyways, through Wiley's UNA (University of North Alabama), I was able to obtain the remaining 15 credits in strictly accounting courses that are needed for me to fulfill the 36 accounting credits education requirement. Each course was around $ 500, and fully on line. The professors are great, they really do respond very quickly to any questions that you might have. Each course is practically set up like Wiley CPA Excel program, not sure if you have ever taken it..but the gist of it is you read the presented/provided text, then click next and multiple choice questions come up called “knowledge checks”, which in the course are your homework…then every course has 8 quizzes and 4 tests..you can probably guess that the tests usually weight over 50% of your final grade.

Quizzes are all true and false questions, some courses either give you 10 or 20 questions PER quiz…but all the tests that i have done (which are all multiple choice by the way) are 25 multiple choice questions. Oh and both quizzes and tests are timed and are opened book.

And I recently spoke to the director of that accounting program at UNA, he told me that if you have passed all four sections of the CPA exam, then you can take any accounting course they offer in any order because the CPA exam is considered an “equivalent” prerequisite match so you can literally take Audit of Financial Statements II before you take Audit of Financial Statements I..or take them simultaneously, that is what i did.

And final thing is that the only due date is the date that the term of the course ends so like the current summer course ends July 25th, so if you registered for a summer course you have to complete all your work before that, otherwise you will get an “I” for incomplete grade, at which point you will have until the middle of December to finish all the work in the course and receive your grade…so that is a plus too because we all know life likes to throw curveballs at us from time to time.

If you have any more questions just let me know.

    Best of luck to you.
