Hello, I am looking for some experienced thoughts and opinions. I am currently using Yaeger CPA Review and I have NINJA Notes, Audio & Blitz. I am on Module 15, Stockholders Equity and recently I have been wondering if I should just stop listening to the lectures and read the Wiley book and take notes. I do like some of the examples that I get from the lectures, but it is taking FOREVER to get through them. I also notice that in the book there is some information that is not covered in the lectures. I scheduled my test for April 15th, so I feel like that is going to get here real soon. The time I have to study is limited as I have a family and I cannot sit down to listen to lectures until 9pm and I try to get some lecture time in on my lunches at work if I am not loaded with work. I just wonder if at this point I need to read, take notes and start working problems. What are your thoughts and opinions? I will keep going through the lectures if they are valuable, but I am not sure what to do at this point as I have not taken a section yet, so I don’t have experience to sway me one way or the other.

Someone advised that, if you have the time, try different types of learning strategies. Visual, Audio, Reading, Writing…etc.

I used to think that we're either auditory or visual learners but I realized just how important a little tiny fact from either a sound or a picture made a difference between that 74 or 75

    CPA - Since 2015
    CISA - Smashed 2012
    CIA - Passed 2015

I think you need to figure out how you learn best. Like mystical guy already implied people learn differently. I am certain that my study technique will evolve over the next couple of exams, but I already decided to ditch the videos. I do still watch videos if I get stuck on a subject(audit sampling for example).

The bottom line is I start working the multiple choice questions faster by reading the material as opposed to watching the videos. I have concluded that I am at least 40 percent more efficient not watching the videos. If the videos are not keeping your attention than its a good indicator that your need to ditch them.

What you can do is find two sections that have similar depth and content and time yourself how long it takes to complete each one with relative competency using both study methods. My guess is there will be a clear winner.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Thank you for the responses. I think I will continue with the lectures because I am more than halfway done. After I am done I will start doing MCQ and notes to see how much I took from the lectures. I do like the lectures, but I am just starting to get to the point where I feel like I have been watching them FOREVER! I will see how this test turns out to determine if I should continue with lectures. Good luck to everyone!

I just want to say that although the Wiley book is good, I personally can't ready more than 2 full pages at a time in that book without take a break! That break turns out being pretty long because I dread going back to that book. It's very extensive, includes a lot of info, is very detailed, and in my opinion is more than what u need for the exam.

That being said, if ur starting from scratch, it may be good to read the book (as much as you can handle it), and probably take notes so that u don't have to go back to it a second time.

The Wiley book does have some good MC questions and simulations in there. I don't think the sims are anywhere close to what's on the exam, but they do help to reinforce what u learned.

    AUD: 84
    FAR: 75
    BEC: 78
    REG: 75

    DONE-ZO!!!!!!!!

REG: Used Becker 2014 book, NINJA MCQ, Ninja notes, ninja audio
