ParticipantI just got my Reg score back, another 71 actually, and looking for a way to study besides Wiley.
Don’t want to spend a whole lot so question about Wiley.
https://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1119120055.html
Is that all I need or do I need the book to or something else? I don’t want to spend $150 if it’s JUST questions. Is there an online book too? Thanks

ParticipantHey…looking at the link you gave above, I think its Wiley's test bank for REG.
I am also looking out for new resources. Heard NINJA is good with MCQ's.
Can NINJA users..update me about its Question Bank. Do they have answers & explanations? How is it?
Above all..practice & hard work is essential. Get going. Dnt give up ! We all will hit it hard !!

MemberI used nothing but the Wiley test bank and the books to supplement weak areas. I let the questions dictate where I need to read up on. I passed audit the last time with nothing but the test bank and using the reference tool to read. But that was my 3rd time taking audit and after three years in public accounting my experience allowed me to reason through audit much easier than when I was just a student.
Definitely spend the money on the Wiley test bank. While it doesn't have a book it does provide exact references to the question straight from their book. It is highly efficient but might not be the most effective way to study. On Amazon, you can find the books pretty cheap to supplement.
The Wiley test bank was 100x's better than Beckers in my opinion. The questions have typically been harder than the exam questions with Wliey so I have found that has prepared me each time. I didn't pass any with Becker. Have passed 3 with Wiley for a quarter of the price and I don't have to pay for a video where two annoying idiots tell me what to highlight and read which incredible inefficient way to study. Highlighting is not a measure of good hard studying. Answering as many multiple choice questions and taking the time to UNDERSTAND why you missed the question is in my opinion the most effective and efficient use of study time.
A person typically only retains the first 20-30 minutes of reading material. However, the mind remembers mistakes more intently than reading. Thus, your weaknesses are more likely to be resolved by making mistakes working questions than reading and highlighting.
Becker is a $3,000 racket and I'm very much against them.

ParticipantThanks for the reply. What order did you do the Wiley in? Just started my free trial to check it out.
Did you do all the sections practice questions at one time or what? Also what order did you do it in? It looks like the Modules are just in alphabetical order right now. Not sure if there is a logical order

ParticipantDo you have WIley text book?
Do each chapter. Do MCQs behind each chapter. Then do with the ones in question bank.
Next day ..or when u finish off with the first..continue the same with second chapter.
See if you can revise ones done earlier before beginning with new ones. That will help.
Mark the questions which u think are difficult. Wiley reference will help. Write down the formulas & imp points. Formulas are confusing. So rewrite them.
Then after doing with all chapters, start off with practice exams

MemberI started at the top and worked my way down. I'd take my total study days until test day, subtract out 10 days to come up with total question days. I'd then divide the total amount of questions by total question dats to come up with a minimum number of questions I should work per day. Now keep in mind that not only are you working the questions but you are taking time to truly understand where you go wrong on incorrect answers. So there's definitely referring to reading in that time.
Typically I do go ahead and do all practice questions at once. Even if I don't finish you can pause and pick back up later.
Once you go through all questions and sims go ahead and use the 10 days you allotted for final review to shore up weak areas and rework all questions in the weak areas again after reading and taking some notes to hopefully grasp the concept.
That's generally how I did it. I also took the week off from work the week of them exam. Sucks to use PTO for it but if you can do 8 hours a day the week of them exam that's 40 more hours of critical cram time. Especially on something like FAR where you may start studying 2 months in advance you will need a cram session to refer back to those early concepts you may have forgotten by the end.

MemberYup. I just started working questions. 2 reasons. It's the only true diagnostic of weak areas. When reading something I found it all made sense, until I got to working questions. I had forgotten everything is read about and highlighted and wasted 4 hours doing so. Secondly, I found when I really made mistakes I focused super hard on those when I referred to the reading to shore them up.
Then after running through the questions once and then reading and honing in on weak spots, I'd rework the questions again. All of them and generally I'd be much much better.
I should note of the first run, I would definitely use the book to go ahead and do a quick if the applicable section only to get an idea of the concept. I used the questions being asked dictate where I did detailed reading. It was quite efficient and proved pretty damn effective for me.
Obviously I had the books and I could have done it Becker way by reading and highlighting then doing questions, but honestly reading didn't work for me. My attention span was only about 15 minutes before I found myself just highlighting because Gearity was telling me to. It wasn't helping at all. Just working the crap out of questions and only detail reading my weak areas kept me focused and on track. While missing a lot of questions is discouraging in some areas, I found I was more discouraged after spending 3-4 hours reading and highlighting and STILL missing a lot of questions.

ParticipantJust ordered Wiley and ordered a used book off Amazon. Hopefully I can get Reg down April 1st. It was my last one, but I lost Audit so will have to retake that one. I'm an auditor, so that one was pretty easy with little studying. Wish me luck.

MemberGood luck! I was in the same boat in December. I failed Reg because I'm a tax guy and got cocky and only studied a week but lost audit because of it. So I just passed REG last night with an 80 and I'm retaking audit for the fourth time in Thursday! Hopefully I'm done then! Good luck to us both.
