I was wondering if it is okay not to read the Wiley text book since they go over it in the lectures. I feel that when I first read it I don’t pick things up. I honestly think its a waste of time, sometimes I read it after my lessons. I am currently studying for FAR. Any suggestions???

I tired reading the entire wiley book for reg. I didn't gain anything out of it and actually failed the exam because it took time away from doing multiple choice questions.

Use the book for reference and to expand on questions you don't understand.

    Far: 76 (Wiley Test Bank)
    Aud: 77 (Wiley Test Bank)
Reg: 61, 76 (Wiley book, Wiley Test Bank)
    Bec: 86 (Wiley Test Bank)

I think any program lecture videos + reading is a waste of time. Do one or the other and dig in on MC. I read the book and did the MC in the book and online for Wiley. It is easier for me to zone out during lectures, so reading worked better for me.

You probably don't need to “read” the textbook. But I would suggest at least flipping through each page and looking for the highlighted ‘tip' sections. Also, sometimes it gives good examples of topics that are problem areas. Do what you feel is most efficient for you, but I would recommend that you at least flip through once and see if it can fill in any holes you think you might have, get more details on complicated topics, and check out their test tips.

I've used CPAExcel for FAR, REG, and now for AUD. I would suggest NINJA MCQ to supplement.

First, I completely ditched the videos, unless it was a concept I just couldn't understand.

Second, I have to give you the standard, “Everyone learns differently,” but I found this cycle works for me.

Using the study planner, go to the assessments for that day:

    1. For each lesson I read/skim the text highlighting what I think is most important

    2. Do the proficiency questions in study mode

    3. Do the Exam questions in study mode, this is where I take some notes.

    ***Wait until the next day

    4. Do the Exam questions in Exam mode

    5. If I get a 90% I'm done

    6. If I get less than 90% find what I'm not understanding in the text, take some notes

    ***Wait until the next day

    7. Go back to Step 4 until I score a 90

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

I fully read the books for all the exams, and I passed each exam on the first try. However, I learn well from reading. I never felt like I was learning much while I was reading, but it still “stuck”. My advice to you is to figure out how you learn the information best and study that way till your'e blue in the face – whether that's lectures, practice problems, taking notes, reading books, etc.

I used Becker and didn't read the book for any of them. The lectures do that, so it would be counter productive versus just doing more MCQ unless you needed to brush up on a particular section.. I passed REG and AUD first try, BEC I exited the exam after first testlet and I didn’t finish going through the material for FAR. However, I passed those two on the second try, not reading the book or doing any of the SIMs.

    REG 77 Feb14
    BEC 13*, 79 Aug14
    FAR 64**, 76 Nov14
    AUD 89 Feb15

    *Exited exam after first testlet
**Only studied F1-F6 out of 10 Becker chapters
