First time through all Wiley MCQ but going really slow – normal?

I just received my acceptance letter in the mail today! I’ve been through Yaeger study material for FAR once, and I’ve been working through the Wiley test bank and book questions. I’ve been working them study style and looking up answers as I go. So far, I’m averaging around 68%, but I’m moving pretty slow.

I’d like to sit for FAR in April, but my concern is that it is still taking me too long to answer questions. Is this normal, or should I be concerned? I’m not sure I would have enough time to go back through all of the questions from the Wiley book and test bank a second time before April. I guess I’m looking for feedback to help gauge my own progress and I’d appreciate hearing from others and your experience with this.

I usually do 4 -6 weeks of testbank prior to exam. I will usually do 1 or 2 testlets per day and review everything. So depending on the exam, that is 24 – 48 or 30 – 60 questions per day. All the time really hammering home concepts.

I found that pace works for me with a few weeks left before exams.

    BEC - 5/2012 - 91
    AUD - 8/2012 - 89
    REG - 1/2013 - 90
    FAR - 5/2013 - 88

Thanks for the response, jgrfan. I've been trying to do 60-90 MCQ's everyday for five or six days per week. However, I'm pretty slow because I'm looking up answers and really trying to understand. I guess I'm afraid I'll still be really slow by the time I want to take FAR in 6 weeks.

I went through the MCQ's twice on FAR and I remember the answers to a majority of the questions to the point that it was not that effective. I would suggest only reviewing subjects in which you struggle or ones that you should be sure to know all associated details and calculations.

I also find that it's easier to answer questions as you would in a exam format. If you don't know the answer, read over the question and try to justify the best answer. Regardless of whether you answered correct or incorrect read the answer explanation and that will help you learn and not send so much time looking up the answers from the book or other study materials.

    FAR - 84!
    REG - 76!
    AUD - 80!
    BEC - August 2013

you will increase your speed as you get closer to testing. i always did wiley in study mode and took lots of notes. weather i got them wrong or right. if i struggled with a question and got it right i would take notes as to why it was right and why other options are wrong. There are multiple questions hidden in ONE multiple choice. you can learn a lot at the slow pace. taking notes helped me a lot! doing the questions at the pace you'r doing now will help you understand them better and get them right with the right amount of time as you get closer to test date and during the test.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like I'm not too far off track except that I haven't been that thorough in taking notes. It's been said here on the forum that a person should be in the 70-80% range on MCQs, but I think if I went through questions a second time I would increase that score partly by memorization. I'm thinking maybe I should worry less about my MCQ score and just focus on understanding why a question is right or wrong.
