Wiley Question –

Is CPAExcel a good review course?

Is 4.5 months too much study time?

I have begun studying for FAR. I took my accounting classes in 2008, so it’s been a while. I am using CPAExcel as my review course. I plan to take FAR in February.

I have been averaging 12-15 hours per week. I need to study extra hard since I took my accounting classes a while back. I feel like this stuff is over my head, as I do not work in accounting. I am at a Big 4 company, but do consulting rather than tax or audit….

I havent used CPAExcel. 4.5 months it too much in my opinion. There is a lot of material to get through, but you can forget it too.

I used CPA Excel for FAR in August and passed. That being said, it does sorta feel like they assume you have a baseline understanding, and if it's been a while since you took your accounting classes, it may not be sufficient. 4.5 months may be good if you need to start from the basics, but you will forget what you learned unless you are constantly reviewing. A lot of it comes down to your final review week.

Maybe January then…I do have the basics of accounting down, and have taken many accounting and business classes (including MBA). I am also going on vacation for 2 weeks in December as well, so I hope I don't forget the material while in Costa Rica!
