Does CPAexcel FAR textbook have practice questions?

I am trying to decide whether to get CPAexcel FAR textbook for my Kindle or buy Wiley FAR review. Wiley BEC textbook had many practice questions but I cannot tell from the Kindle “sample” whether the CPAexcel textbook has practice questions.

Could any of you who have used CPAexcel’s textbooks let me know if the book includes practice questions?

    Thanks.

No, they don't. I regretted that I bought the book cause I only use the core material that they offer.

    Wow, I'm glad I asked.

I'm trying to decide whether to purchase Wiley again for FAR vs. something else. I need something nicely laid out and plenty of practice questions. Wiley BEC had tons of questions which I really liked.

    Thank you!

I have the CPAExcel book and the Wiley book for FAR on my Kindle and I like the Wiley book much better. I could see CPAExcel's book being really good along with their lectures. The Kindle version of CPAExcel does not have questions but Wiley does.

After all your great input, I'm leaning to Wiley FAR at this point. I know Wiley is much more comprehensive but I really liked the outlined structure of the textbook content while studying for BEC. The practice questions are extremely helpful for my learning style.

I suggest getting a real Wiley book because Kindle edition (I got a sample first) was really hard to read.

I'm almost done with REG studying and take the test on 5/29.

I bought CPAExcel and I just simply do not use it. It never has prompts to tell you when to stop reading and go do the MCQ's….that bugs me. Do you read all the way though the ethics or are you supposed to stop at the end of each boldfaced section and do MCQ's? Does each section of bold faced questions have it's own set of questions or do the questions cover two sections in the book.

I used WILEY for AUD and BEC and it was heck, I'll give you that. But not once did I encounter a topic that wasn't covered and scored 87 and 88.

This time I did CPAExcel for business law because it looked to be a little more condensed and when I went to Wiley's test bank I found plenty that wasn't covered in CPAExcel. If by the Grace of God I get through REG next week, I will be sticking with Wiley for FAR. I'm done with CPAExcel.

@masa_inn – Which Kindle do you have? I have a Kindle Fire and I don't find the books hard to read. I actually like having them on the Kindle because I take it with me everywhere and I can read anywhere. I also have the Amazon Cloud Reader so I can read them on the desktop when I'm at home or on my laptop when I'm at work. I ask which one you have because I was thinking about getting my husband a regular Kindle, not the Fire, and I don't want to buy it if the books are hard to read.

I have CPAExcel as well and I love it. You should consider getting the online version and textbook. I've been 3 for 3 so far, hopefully 4 for 4 in the next day or so! I used cpareviewforfree.com as well as my husband's Bisk book for AUD, REG, and BEC; however I didn't think to use his material when I took my first part, FAR and got a perfect score (HA!) of 75. I ended up with CPAExcel because it's what my employer offers and I didn't feel like I could commit to Becker (I planned my wedding last summer and took FAR a month before the big day — no time for Becker!). I will admit that it was nice to have access to printed MC's because I can get distracted pretty easily on the computer, but I really liked that I could use my materials at work and at home without the need of lugging around my book…which I guess I did anyway but that's because I like to highlight. Compared to my husband's books, the CPAExcel material has a LOT more text, which I found very helpful. And the lessons really are bite-sized. They're designed to be about 30-minute lessons, which is perfect when you're trying to squeeze lessons in at whatever time you can. Plus, some (no, not all) of the lecturers are awesome. Pam in FAR is by far (pun intended) the best lecturer across the series. Also, the access to the professors is really great, they answer your questions very quickly. And it was nice to know that the material really is as up to date as possible. A few months ago, my REG part got compeltely revamped, which freaked me out since I was in the middle of it, but also made me feel better knowing they cut some stuff that wasn't being tested heavily anymore. Contrary to what someone above wrote, I thought that the lessons were set up really well. I usually read the chapters (never longer than 7 pages or so), watched to the lecture while taking notes, and did the true/false and past exam questions. I thought it was a very easy program to follow, and I always recommend it. If you have the time and attention span to do books with really long chapters, go for it. My brain just isn't built that way. Good luck!

Hi I have a question for those that bought the CPAexcel review. I'm trying to figure out which “option” to choose. So if I didn't choose the textbook/ebook option, I am still able to print out the SAME information as long as I have the core material? Hearing that the FAR book is 1000 pages makes it seem like it might be better if I just choose to print out the sections I plan to study so I don't have to lug around a huge book when I go to work.

Also can anyone comment on the Professor Mentoring, such as do you recommend it, etc? Thank you!

    @Kricket
I have Kindle4 (the $79 one). Love it to pieces for regular books, but all the inserts/diagrams in Wiley (like the one with characteristics of information from Module 9) were just impossible to read – they turned out to be way too small.

Still highly recommend it for normal, non-CPA 🙂 books.
