Wondering how long everyone spent using CPAexcel to study for REG? So far my times for other exams are.

    Audit – 53 hrs

    BEC- 46 hrs

    FAR- 119 hrs

This is probably combined with an extra 20-25 hrs of Wiley test banks for each.

Has anyone used CPAexcel to pass the exam? Seems like FAR is a lot longer than the others, did anyone else notice this (i know its longer, but twice as many hours??). How does REG compare?

Please post your hours if you use CPAexcel! thanks!

I used CPAexcel for REG. Spent around 80-100 hours on it.I don't normally go by the amount of time CPAexcel clocks on the home screen as it doesn't include all of the time I spend reviewing the question I got wrong. I also used ninja notes as a supplement and also borrowed the REG outlines in Becker from a friend (which are extremely helpful btw!). REG was definitely much shorter than FAR in CPAexcel, but it's still pretty long. Fortunately for me, I work in tax so I was able to kind of “weed out” the not-so-important tax topics and focus on the bigger areas of tax. Also, run a google search for the 2013/14 AICPA released questions that Becker releases (in pdf format). I always find them very helpful and indicative of what the exam will look like.

I was thinking that it would fall somewhere in-between FAR, and BEC/AUD as far as length. I thought I was never going to get through the material in FAR, but then again I spent a lot of Saturdays & Sundays watching football instead of studying. Thanks for the input!

I put in about 88 hours of study time for REG using CPAExcel. I didn't supplement with any other materials and passed on my first attempt. I also work in tax accounting, so my background knowledge did help. It is the only section I have taken so far, so I don't have any others to compare it to. I am currently studying for FAR and take the exam tomorrow. I haven't studied near as long for FAR as I did REG due to my job and the Holidays… and Football. Ha! I have a bad feeling going into tomorrow. There is just so much material in FAR and I've been out of college for almost 4 years! I'm pretty sure I will be retaking FAR sometime late Spring due to tax season. Do you have any suggestions on staying on track with CPAExcel's guidelines? I guess I just need to allot myself longer to study? How many weeks did you dedicate to FAR?

    AUD - 78
    BEC - 76! DONEEEEEEE
    FAR - 66, 73, 87
    REG - 79

    Hip Hip Hooray!

For FAR I didn't get serious until about the last month and a half of studying. I was about halfway done or less at this point. I just found out how many percentage points I would need to complete each day (extra on weekends) in order to give myself a week or two to review. I think I ended up spending like 4 mos. on FAR, but yeah as you said Football took a lot of weekends away. If I wouldn't have taken that time off I think 3 mos. would have been ideal (working full time, half of a social life). Wiley Test Bank and Ninja notes really helped me remember those topics that I had learned in the beginning since I gave myself such a long period to study.
