    Wiley Question –

So..is anyone else using CPAExcel and finding that the Sims/MCQs for each section often cover material that was not even mentioned in the section? My method for each section is as follows:

    1) Watch the lecture (and any deep dive lectures as well)

    2) Read the study text

    3) Take the Exam Questions/Sims

    4) Do any supplemental/proficiency questions

I can’t figure out what is going on. Right now for example, I am studying the Income Statement module (FAR). I got 100% on the Exam MCQs because everything on there was in the notes/lectures. Then I took the Sim questions and absolutely bombed. The Sims are asking these super-complex questions that I have no clue how to answer (and that weren’t covered anywhere in the lectures/notes).

Am I doing something incorrectly regarding my order of studying/doing problems? Anyone else using CPAExcel and finding this?

I'm studying AUD with Wiley and it does that also. It doesn't happen all time, but you're not alone. When that happens to me I just go through the book and read on that section. I think accounting in general is just too interrelated to not have an overlap of concepts like that occasionally.

    AUD 93 Jan 16
    BEC 83 Feb 16
    FAR 83 Apr 16
    REG 84 May 16

When I first started the process I was using wiley cpaexcel and it was not effective for me. Especially their FAR section 72 topics with a S ton of sub topics. I did the lectures, but the proficiency questions really turned out to be a waste of time. Just work the MCQ. The only thing I can't stand is that a subsection will be like 15 mins long, but there will only be like 2 MCQ related to the topic. But just stick with the MCQ (EQs I think is what they call them) and the Sims. Also one of the professors is not helpful on the boards. most of the time he tells you to go look it up in a wiley intermediate textbook. Most FAR sims are brutal if they deal with numbers. But then again find out what works for you. B/c FAR is so condensed and the amount of material I tried to figure out the most freq topics.

I've used it for REG and AUD and it did that to me too. I think it's because the SIMS are more comprehensive, so its hard to narrow down to that specific module. I noticed that I would do a SIM, be completely lost, and then learn the missing information a few lessons later. Maybe do all the lectures and study text for one section and then go back and do all the MCQs and SIMS?

    REG -73 (8/2015) 81 (10/2015)
    AUD - 73 (11/2015) 84 (1/2016)
    BEC - 84 (2/2016)
    FAR - 77 (6/2016)

I was finding it hard to stay on track with my plan when i would do the problems… What worked for me with AUD is read the material all the way through first then start Ninja MCQ and read Ninja Notes every day. I use the book to get the basis because lets face it most of the learning comes from the MCQ.

    FAR - Passed 4/2016
    AUD - Passed 11/2015
    REG - ?
    BEC - 05/28/2016

Thanks guys! I'm glad it's not just me. I must say I am kind of regretting starting with FAR, but whatever. I'll be glad when it's over. 🙂

I had the exact same problem with FAR. I felt that the questions did not match the material and I also found that it was WAY TOO dragged out. I switched to Bekers and I am a lot more satisfied.
