    Wiley Question –

For anyone using CPAexcel, is it worth it to go over the Supplemental Outlines of Professional Standards (SAS, SSARS, SSAE, PCAOB)? I ask because those topics are at the end, and unlike the rest of the topics, they don’t have videos or MCQs associated with them, just text.

    Bump!

CPA_Romantic – Are we the same person? I originally scheduled FAR for April 6, then moved it up to April 2. And funny how we are both taking AUD on May 18! I am doing so because I am going to Puerto Rico May 24…

I have the same question BTW. I am definitely going through the sample reports (without videos), but the stuff at the end I am not sure about. You think it's the AL stuff?

I have already gone through most of the videos, and will focus on EQs in May. I may skip the PQs (T/F) and probably won't read the book. CPAExcel repeats everything.

Our order of the exams is the same as well – FAR, AUD, REG, BEC. I will spend the summer on REG. BEC should be easy for me since I have an MBA and I am an IT person.

I may direct questions to you using @Romantic_CPA in the subject line in the coming months…

@Getting a CPA Lol I suppose we're almost the same person (with the exception of exam days for REG and BEC). And in case I miss your @CPA_Romantic subject line, just post on a thread that I recently made or replied to so I'll see it in my user activity. And I know this may sound like a dumb question, but what is “AL stuff?”

Authoritative Literature. I think everyone is big on using AL during AUD for MCQs and SIMs, not just the research questions. Maybe it's important to learn?

I guess. I'll cover it if it's included in the lessons. But if it's extra stuff, then I personally am probably not going to spend time on it.

I may try to get REG done by end of July and finish up BEC by end of August (original plan). I just don't know how summer is looking and I don't know how hard REG is going to be…two months should be enough for REG? I work from home a lot and I think things will be slow in the coming months…

FAR result could change all my plans though 🙂

I read it for the first couple of lessons and realized that it was not worth my time. I passed with a 95 so I would say the regular information is plenty. The supplemental information just seemed to be the actual code sections where the info came from and IMO went into too much detail on the topics that had already been covered.

If you want practice at using the authoritative literature, do the research simulations.

I physically cut my book “in half” I took the stuff in the back out and just focused on the “main stuff”. I skimmed the stuff in the back but did not spend significant time on it. Passed AUD on the first try. It also felt really good cutting the book in half. 🙂

@Getting a CPA Haha we really may be the same person after all. Your original plan is the same as mine, and I am literally thinking the same thing about how “FAR result could change all my plans though.”

@2k2s2k and @smp73 Thanks bro. This is what I thought about the supplemental information as well, thanks for confirming that. And LOL about cutting the book in half.

If I remember correctly I cut the book in half the same day I found out I failed REG this summer. Felt so good. 🙂 Good Luck Studying! 🙂

    @CPA_Romantic et al…

I am almost done with the videos in CPA Excel in a week! WTH? There doesn't seem to be much material for AUD? Is it really that little material?

I am not saying I am ready for the exam, but there don't seem to be too many topics.

I can start the PQs/EQs (T/F; MCQs), and maybe even read the book, but I guess I am seeing a major shortage of material.

For FAR – I thought I would never get through it. I used CPAExcel to study FAR for 6 months!

I felt that CPAExcel was lacking in practice questions for AUD so I supplemented using cpareviewforfree.com but you could also use Wiley. I would highly recommend it for AUD.

I will end up using CPAReviewForFree for AUD. I didn't like it for FAR because the questions were too detailed and difficult.

I would NOT recommend CPAReviewForFree for FAR, but I did use it for AUD back in 2008 when I was studying for the exam, before I abandoned it…

I have paid for FAR and REG, but can I change or pay for Aud to beat the material changes by July? Wlll they give me a new NTS if I simply pay for Aud and keep my schedule for FAR And REG since my NTS won't expire til August? or should I not get caught up in the material changes coming up. I am considering the study time of at least six weeks.

@tncincy Every time you apply for a new section, you get another NTS. For instance, if you were to apply today for AUD, it's going to take a couple of days to process (depends on jurisdiction) but let's just say it processes by Friday, April 12. On Friday, you will have an NTS that's good for 3/6/9 months (again, depending on jurisdiction) starting from April 12, and that NTS will be in addition to the NTS you already have for FAR and REG that expires whenever it expires.
