For those of you not familiar with Wiley cpaexcel they offer a CPA Exam mentoring section for q&a’s and I actually find them helpful.

However, there is a professor who responds to some of the questions and he is a complete jerk. His responses are so rude and cocky. It really makes me angry. Professor Bain- who seriously thinks he is the smartest man alive, and we are all soooo stupid. Someone asked him about the TVM concept and he said “how did you graduate and get your degree if you don’t know tvm- I would suggest going back to school and not taking the exam” .. We didn’t pay 2k to be told we are stupid Professor Bain (the guy was out of college for 10 years btw).

I don’t have a question here, I just had to say that I can’t stand him and his arrogant answers.

Yeah, he is kind of a prick. He likes to tell people to go look up their questions in an intermediate accounting textbook, LOL.

I'd imagine though that answering the same questions over and over and over gets to you after a while. A normal professor would see the students improve over the semester but with a CPA review course that doesn't happen. Constantly new candidates join. Teaching FAR for infinity sounds like some medieval torture.

I'm glad I am not the only one who noticed it. Seriously, it can be extremely demoralizing for an already-struggling candidate to hear that from a professor/mentor.

So its either professors like these, or Dan Stone that us Wiley students are stuck with. Remember him?

Do they have a Customer Service department?

You're paying a service and that isn't right. It isn't as though he is merely donating his time, yes?

I would submit a complaint together.

Pam smith makes me feel so many ways… not in a good way. She is just so effin happy and messes up her words a lot and it drives me nuts

Dan stone.. I have an entire post about him too..

I'm so glad others see it!! I was sooooo angry about his answer.. I asked a question and he was so mean to me, I cussed his life out in my head.

Also, I don't think (besides Bain) that I would hate these professors in real life outside of this exam.. I think it's a combination of everything lol. This exam really making me angry.

I never asked any questions in CPAExcel since my questions were almost always already asked by someone else in the past. It just ends up sucking up a lot of time going crazy over a few poorly worded convoluted MCQs. That's why I didn't post in the Study Groups on this forum much at all. By the time someone answered the question, I was already on to the next lesson.

That guy is a first class jerk. It's like he forgets that we are paying customers, and he is there to do a job, which includes answering questions that the students have about the material. Greg Carnes, who teaches the tax portion of REG isn't much better. He gets easily annoyed and gives short, vague answers to questions.

I mean, we pay extra for that part of wiley. Yeah I get that it's annoying to answer the same questions over and over, but I mean that's your job. I'm sure the starbucks barista person is sick of making latte's over 100 times a day, BUT most do it with a smile or at least don't make you feel like shit for ordering one.. :/

There are a good number of instructors out there who have this arrogant defeatist-style approach to education. They should not be teaching, and they're only doing it because of their credentials and for the paycheck. I heard that some of Becker's people were this way and that's why avoided it and went with Roger. I didn't know it about Wiley but it comes as no surprise.
I'd write a long letter to Wiley and tell them that they should seriously consider firing those clowns who are not doing anyone any good. Yeah, they may have a CPA and a PhD in Accounting and tons of other credentials but that absolutely does not make them qualified to teach. I had more than one professor like this in school. I complained about one or two of them to their department chairs. One of them was taken off of teaching that course again for a few years until she grew up a bit and ditched her attitude problems – I wasn't the only one who complained about her. If you write a really powerful letter that says “I'm not paying thousands of dollars to be told I'm a f***ing idiot and I'm reporting your company to the Attorney General's office for taking funds and not providing services”, the higher-ups will usually do something about it.

Having said all of that – this is why I recommend Roger to everyone. He teaches all of the content, and his staff are (from what I've seen) all nice people who care about the students.

Piece of sh*t Bain is more likely. I thought I was the only one he told that to. I was out of school for 7 years when I decided to take the CPA test. 3 weeks into the FAR course, I asked Bain a question and he told me I should go back to school before signing up for Wiley CPAExcel even though I had a BS and a MAc. That really fueled me and not only did I pass all 4 sections, but I passed them all on my first attempt and with rather good scores. No thanks to Bain. I paired this with free YouTube videos of RogerCPA and other sources to fully understand the FAR section. We pay so much money for this jerk to be telling us that. I will not recommend this review course to anyone because of this one prick. Other professors like Professor Pam Smith and Jeanne Yamamura were awesome. They made the lectures more interesting and fun. This one pinhead ruined Wiley CPAExcel for me.
