Can I use the 2011 Wiley book to study for Reg 11/2011? (…or is it outdated?)

I am curious if the 2011 Wiley book for Regulation is outdated and cannot be used to study with for an exam in the last window of 2011. I know some numbers have changed and I’m unsure as if the exam in November will test us on the new changes (ie: 179).

Anyone have any ideas if using the Wiley questions/book is okay, taking into consideration these changes?

The Wiley REG book is a bit outdated, especially in the Individual Taxation module. And there is nothing on Circular 230 and that is roughly around 15% of your exam. So, you definitely need to study that topic.

I just bought the Gleim 2011 book for REG and while there are some outdated portions, they have a bunch of updates posted on their website as PDF files, so they really make sure they're current with everything. I would recommend the Gleim book for now until Wiley gets their act together. Hopefully, the 2012 book will be better.

Totally agree with CPAMan….I used Yaeger/Wiley and was not prepared for Circular 230. Definitely need to know it.

    BEC (11/10) 77 (Bisk)
    FAR 7/2 - 63 11/5 - 80 (Yeager - Fail, Becker - Pass)
    Reg (08/11) - 78 (Yeager)
    Aud - 11/29 - 78(Yeager)

Is the Wiley online test bank updated for these changes? Does anyone know?

The REG NINJA notes cover all of this as well.

Wiley may have sent an update. I know I printed out some material from Yaeger for the Wiley book. I just haven't gotten around to reading what it is lol

Circ 230 is pretty basic stuff, just remember

    – Inform your client about actions of non-compliance and consequences of such

    – Don't snitch on your client to the IRS if there is non-compliance

    – Don't aide your client in non-compliance

    – If you're in trouble, you can't represent your taxpayer before the IRS but you can prepare tax returns, answer to IRS requests, and be a regular witness

    – Don't do obviously stupid illegal things that would have obvious repercussions

    – The director of office of professional responsibility will crack the whip on you for violations

@Jeff- I didn't see them on my Ninja notes. Were these recently added? If so, any chance I can get updates sent to me? Or did I just miss it??
