Can you bypass Surgent adaptive learning and study the "long way?"

Was checking out the Surgent CPA Review project. The video interface looks good but I’m not 100% sold on their adaptive or whatever you call that learning approach. I’m someone who has been out of school for a little while and I’d like to take the longer approach.

    Anybody use Surgent?

When I called them up, they said they teach it like you don’t know anything but my argument would be if you don’t know anything why do you need adaptive learning strategies?

The price seems good too with the 11 month payment plan.

Ninja mcq's are adaptive as well. I think you would want the adaptive because you don't know what you know. In the adaptive case, you can better gauge what you need to put more study time into. For example. If you are studying far and you have a thorough understanding of leases, you can move on according to the adaptation to something you are weaker in. So the adaptive helps you understand what you need to study and what you've already mastered. You probably could do section by section instead of the software guiding you until you have seen all of the questions. My thought is to make all the adjustments necessary with the software's help.

I've been out of school and accounting for three years. I'm coming in knowing nothing. I feel like if I take the adaptive test and I get a few questions right, they would have been good guesses and I don't want the software algorithm to base anything off of that. That's why I wanted to know if there was just a long route you could take. I looked at Gleim and apparently it teaches you more than you need to know.

Yes, I just figured out how to do it and was able to bypass the 450 assessment questions. I like the way it works once your in it some but, because I also study the long way and have been out of school for a bit the 450 questions before reviewing anything feels soul crushing because I do so terribly. you can also access all the videos through the site there hosted on that way you can watch them section by section.
I found that the Ninja method works pretty well with surgent, read the book, watch the lectures then start MCQs, deciding for yourself how to tackle them. Section by section or mixed together.

    Hi Kay,

Did you like Surgent? I was researching it today and I liked how the videos correlated to the PowerPoints and the Text. I wasn't a fan of the 450 question assessment because I am admittedly coming in having been out of school for over three years now.

Did you like any other programs? I'm deciding between Gleim and Surgent.
