Studying REG with Roger CPA, when should I be moving on to different chapters?

    Hello all,

I just started studying for REG which will be the first CPA exam I’ll ever take. I purchased UWorld Roger CPA Review’s review materials and just finished the first chapter of Individual taxation. The big picture of individual taxation makes sense to me but I haven’t really gotten all the minor details down yet. I’ve been doing Roger and Ninja’s MCQs and scoring mostly 70-80% because I’m forgetting a lot of the little rules.

What I want to know is if I should just go ahead and move to Chapter 2 (Corporate Tax) or master individual taxation to the point where I can score higher on MCQ quizzes?

Honestly, to pass, the goal is not to “master” each chapter but to get a fundamental understanding of each chapter. I am using Roger as well btw and what I do is watch videos, take notes, and do some questions. When it's time to move on to the next section, I still do questions from the previous chapter(s) and look over the important things so I don't forget the details as I move on. If you stick with each chapter and try to master it before moving on to the next one, it will probably take a long time. 70-80% is pretty good, just keep doing questions and mix in some questions from the previous sections as you move on.

I agree Xdies – you need to get a understanding. If you spend too much time one chapter then you forget past chapters before you get to review…..have you thought about your learning style to determine what you need to do to understand the info?

    FAR: 63, 55, 62
    REG: 65, 77*
    AUD: Fail, 64, 71
    BEC: 72, 74, 81
