I am studying for REG right now and I am going through UWorld Roger CPA Review Lectures. For people who used Roger, what method did you use to study? From Jeff’s CPA Exam Survival Guide, I have stopped doing the MCQ at the end of the lecture because I know I will forget what I have learned. I decided to wait to the end and go through all of them….but am I wasting my time going through all these hours of lectures? I am just curious what other Rogers users did. I know I can’t just go straight to the MCQ questions…I guess I am just not trying to waste time. I have 3 kids and time is limited. I am writing good notes going through the lectures though which I guess is a pro. Thanks in advance!

I bought Rogers audio lectures for FAR before I bought anything else. I listed to them all the time when I was working around the house or in the yard. They were amazingly helpful because I listened to them over and over and over. Can't really do that with the video lectures.

The thing is that you can really learn the material and yet still not have a grasp of how to attack an exam question. So that's why now I work backwards, questions first (look up the answers) and then I'll start watching the lectures. Throw the flash cards in along the way. That Brainscape that Jeff uses is awsome.

You need to take lots of notes from Roger's lectures as he makes most of his cash from lectures, so his book sucks. Once you are done with the first chapter, you should go over every single question, and then take more notes.When you are done with Chapter 1 and start reviewing Ch2, go back and do some more questions from chap1. Try to do cumulative tests every 3 days as you continue to go over new chapters. When you are don with tax, start reviewing all your notes and flash cards and take more cumulative tests. I think is very hard to learn anything by just going over tons of new information, and not practicing at all. By the time you are done with the last chapter on Reg, you could be in week 10, so are you expecting to remember anything from Ch1? As of 4/6/16 8:58 Pm, the following is what men have come up to explain how our brain learns most efficiently, I suggest you follow some of those tips if you want to pass. And don't forget to supplement Roger with Ninja as his questions are too easy.

Roger's method is to teach you stuff to pass. Just enough stuff. I used him and what I did was watched the vids, then did the questions and reviewed them later after closing all chapters. There's really no need to rewatch lectures but in my case I did for government because how backwards that section was.

I also learn through watching lectures . I do not learn by writing notes. You can do either of two. But this is what i did for Reg and Far, listen to lectures and do lots of MC. Exam is conceptual base for reg read and to mc if you are getting mc wrong again and again than you have to go back and read that part or listen to the lectures. Just doing mc will not help in reg because it is different than far and bec. Wiley test bank really helped me. Just doing roger Question is not enough.

Thanks everyone. I do plan on listening to his lectures but I was just curious what other people were doing because I sometimes get in panic mode and feel pressed for time to learn all of this information. I know everyones learning style is different but what I have taken from these answers for me is that I will do the lectures, answering the questions and build on it in a cumulative way which may help me to retain the information.

I used only Roger for all of my exams, and I thought his MCQ bank was enough for me. I also thought his books were pretty good too – the last step I did before taking my exams was read through the book (except for FAR). I never exhausted the test bank on any section, and I think his questions were at least as hard as the actual exam. Regarding lectures, it depends on how comfortable you are with the material. i actually used his MCQ bank to pretest myself for BEC and REG (I read alot about economics-related issues and I work in tax) and was able to eliminate about half of the lectures from each section, which saved a bunch of time. I realize people learn differently, but I think unless you have a background related to a particular section, it's really hard to jump to MCQ's without feeling lost. You need that foundation there for the answer explanations to make sense.

Well I was planning on buying Ninja mcq. Is there anyone else that thinks that Rogers mcq is enough? I already have ninja audio so I am supplementing with that when I am driving, taking kids to the park, etc. I have a tax background from working at the IRS for 5 years.

Roger does have the best lectures but he goes fast and some think he needs to get more in detail. I have Roger and Wiley – Roger I paid for, Wiley my firm paid for. It's good to have both for topics I don't pick up quickly and they both have different tips and tricks and ways of explaining things. IMO, Roger is best for AUD and REG, Wiley for BEC and FAR.

I am just starting Reg – but for FAR and AUD I watched his lectures, DID NOT do the MCQ at the end of each section, did Ninja MCQ in between videos, and rewrote the Ninja notes.

I can't watch/listen AND write…if I try to do both then I ended up not hearing/learning anything, which is why I got the Ninja notes. I really only use Roger books if something still isn't making sense and I need more clarification.

When I do the Ninja MCQ I would do them 30 at a time and I would let the software pick the questions from all the chapters. So sometimes that meant I was doing questions for topics I hadn't yet covered, but I figure the exposure is good and I can learn from the explanations.

I did try some of Roger's MCQ – they seemed pretty similar to the Ninja questions. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I prefer the Ninja software so I stuck with it. Maybe some of it had to do with I was already to the adaptive phase and wanted to let it do its thing as far as picking topics it was seeing me struggle with.

I just read another post in which someone was saying they used Roger for REG, went into the test feeling well prepared but left feeling the complete opposite. This has me a little nervous, but I'm hoping adding Ninja will help cover me on areas where Roger is lacking.

I have used Roger to prep and I have also used NINJA. I am currently studying for REG and I have to say I feel like the test bank is enough. I'm really drilling into a lot of the little details and I think Roger could be enough to pass this one, especially if you do the MCQs 2-3 times and all the SIMS. I know how you feel because when I first started I also felt like I needed more than just Roger MCQs and that's why I got NINJA. NINJA stands out more than Roger because the explanations are a little better. Someone mentioned on the forum before that Roger's answer explanations could be improved if they outlined the calculation problems in a better way. I have to agree but to be honest its fine as long as your reading the explanation carefully and work it out yourself…it's not a deal breaker. From what I have experienced so far on this exam, his MCQs have improved since he rolled them out in 2014. Although, I think he did a fairly good job in FAR with his MCQs but I had NINJA then so I used it more. Audit was fine but I also supplemented and BEC his questions weren't that great but again I know he's added more questions since he rolled out the new site so those could have improved. The problem with using two test banks or courses at the same time is that it can get overwhelming trying to line them up so you're testing the same material, which is difficult to do. I'm going to hedge my bets on Roger and study my butt off and see if that works. If you have plenty of time after you have gone through all of Rogers videos, MCQs and SIMS then go for NINJA but for now you may just want to stick with Roger.

@cpa007, It's aite. It's small, about 700-800 or something. I did use NINJA mcqs and WTB to make sure I had more questions. I think if you could afford NINJA for Bec, you should. I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed to pass.

All this stuff is really reassuring to hear bc I'm going to be using NINJA too for REG but I was just under the impression that Roger's questions would be too easy. Let's hope it works…

@Nicole, I also studied at night and I couldn't focus on any of the lectures. The way I finally passed was by reading and taking notes as quickly as I could. I would just read a paragraph and try to sum it up in a sentence. Then I spent the majority of my time doing MCQs. My goal was to get through all the Becker and Ninja MCQs. I was never able to do all the MCQs, but I learned more from the MCQs and the explanations than I did from the lectures. Jeff has a podcast where he explains his method a lot better than me.

Roger has the best lecture in my opinion. I learned a lot by watching his lecture and taking notes.
