UWorld Roger CPA Review Question –

interested in getting everyone’s thoughts on each course. A little background: I took FAR & passed in January 2012 using the 2011 Becker self-study materials.

Also debating whether to get a full course or just a cram course. I will have 6 weeks to study. Obviously i will be supplementing with NINJA notes/audio & WIleyTestBank

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!
    Licensed CPA!

Used Becker self-study materials (just this for FAR original & REG #1), WileyTestBank, NINJA notes/audio, and Roger cram course for AUD #5, REG #3 & FAR reboot. CPA!

I personally like Rogers and I do like Gleim's test bank. I think since you sat FAR so long ago, you should get the full Course for FAR.

    That's my 2 cents.

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

I agree with Insiyah. I am using Rogers also for my CPA review and I found it to be sufficient in preparing me for FAR which I passed with an 89 first try. Good luck to you!

Loved Roger's lectures for FAR the most out of all 4 parts!

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

The thing that annoys me about Rogers is that I don't like to use the actual Wiley textbook to do MCQ and SIMS. It gets very annoying to flip back and forth between question and answer, sometimes accidentally seeing the next answer. The book is also heavy to carry around. The actual test is online so it makes more sense doing questions on the computer. I wish Wiley organized the online test bank the way Gleim does.

That is one thing I like about Becker. It is very organized and you can do corresponding MCQ and SIMS right after each chapter/subchapter. However, Roger is definitely better at explaining certain things. Then again, people say Becker's mnemonics are really good (car in big, graspp se papi). Also, as annoying as highlighting is, it does tend to help during the final review stage, at least for me.

Anyway, do you guys actually use the Wiley textbook or just do the few questions he provided on the back and use Gleim or Wiley to attack those areas?

I never did MCQs in the Wiley textbook – only the ones in Wiley Test Bank online. But I might look at the textbook for AUD. I assumed they were all the same, but later discovered they are not!

I really dislike Wiley textbooks……and I try to cover the next answer so I don't accidentally see it – so I know what you mean, notebook8 🙂

tough_kitty: I don't want to hijack this thread, but there are so many question I want to ask you about using Rogers for FAR and REG!! is there a better way we can talk? I suppose I can make a new thread or something.

I passed AUD and BEC with Becker on the first try and at the time I loved Becker. However, I failed FAR and REG with it, so i got Rogers. To the OP, at least for me, I needed a different style of teaching for FAR and REG and I hope Rogers is the key.

@notebook8: Well, you should be happy with FAR because Roger's lectures are awesome for that part! He explains how to solve the questions for bonds and pensions simply by setting up a journal entry with the info you are given in the problem! I really liked that part. He also explains govt acct VERY well in his 4 hr long lectures….And I know what I am talking about because I took govt acct class in college and thought it was hard – well, not after I watched Roger! So, I was very pleased with Roger's lectures for FAR. But also review the Becker textbook because Becker covers a few topics that Roger doesn't touch and you might come across a few questions on the exam which you'd only be able to answer if you read the Becker textbook! I had the 2011 version and read through it, in addition to Roger's review. But my Becker Software expired by then….

As far as REG, I can't say I was super impressed by Roger's lectures. I took Federal and Individual Taxation class, so I knew all there is to know about that part. I guess he covered most of the material pretty well, however, most of the business law topics are pretty straight forward – memorization – so I can't say his lectures were very helpful, but still useful.

As you can see, I passed these parts, but I don't think ANY review would have prepared me for REG simulations….some of them, anyway….so you do need research skills for that, and a really good understanding of tax topics and forms….

Hope this answered most of your questions 🙂

Thank you tough_kitty!!!! I failed REG because of tax and the SIMS, so I really hope Rogers can get me the pass I need. You definitely answered most of my questions! Quick question though, did you do the MCQ he assigned after each lecture or did you just the the Wiley section on the online test bank? I really dislike using the physical Wiley textbook. Also, did you read Rogers whole book and Becker's whole book or just parts? I just started and I watch the lectures and take notes, then read the book, then answer the questions. Is that what you did?
