I used UWorld Roger CPA Review to study for Reg, and felt prepared going into the exam. I left no stone unturned and was comfortable with everything that was covered in the review course. Then I sat for the exam, and at the end felt as if I was not prepared at all.

The questions on the exam were over the topics discussed in the review course, but neither the lectures or course book went into the level of detail that the exam asked. I knew plenty on these topics, but unfortunately Roger didn’t cover the aspects that I was tested on… I found this incredibly frustrating, because like I said I felt prepared walking in.

Also, I was pretty confident that I knew how to compute any tax calculations that came my way. But my test was light on calculations. And instead it was pretty heavy on Bus Law concepts. Does anyone have any insight as to how this may reflect on my performance (ie light on tax calcs = poor performance on the MCQs)?

Thanks for any input you may have. If I have to retake I’m not sure what I would do differently.

Hey man I'm a Roger customer as well, and had the exact experience you had lol. However, I supplemented my study with the WIley book which really prepared for tax and the SIMS. I knew my SIMS very well and the multiple choice I was comfortable for Tax. However, my business law questions were much more frequent than I expected and there was very specific questions that threw me off. However I nailed the blaw sections that dealt with contracts.

I was in the same position like you are right now. I used Roger and Wiley Test Bank, felt prepared going in and felt unprepared going out. The worst part is I don't know what I could do to make a difference if I need a second try.

Fortunately I passed and hopefully never have to take it again

you just need to have a little faith in yourself. relax and you will pass too 🙂

Tax and Business law are two very very complicated area and NO review course will cover all the questions you see in the exam. But you don't need 100% correct in the exam. You need to score a 75 which I am 100% sure Roger and Ninja cover enough for you to get there.

If you study, you will pass 🙂

marqzho, what did you get on Reg using Roger and WTB? Do you have any tax background? I'm using Becker and supplementing with Roger. I noticed that becker covered individual taxes in two chapters with more than 8 hours of lectures and Roger covered it in 4 hours. The Partnership,Gift Taxes, and a few other sections are covered better by Roger since becker did not explain them very well.

I got a 90 on my first trial on REG and I have zero tax background. I didn't take any US tax course in college and I don't even do my own tax return 🙂 So believe me when I said Roger + WTB cover enough for anyone to pass the exam.

Hi,

I felt the exact same. I just took the Reg exam and the simulations were extremely detailed and i had no idea how to even begin on the simulations. Like you said, they expected a lot more detail then was covered in the course. Did anyone ever come out of the exam feeling they bombed the simulations and actually passed?

Getting really stressed and have to wait another three weeks for the results too. Yikes

I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I imagine that most people have doubts coming out of the test, but going in I was extremely confident. But despite my perceived preparedness, there was a lot that just wasn't touched on in my review course. I walked out shaking my head. I didn't feel defeated in the least bit, because I knew everything that I was told I needed to know.

I truly think that there is an element of luck to these exams. And by that I mean that one exam could be so different than the next that you may get a 60% on your version, but would have got a 90+% if you got the test of the person sitting next to you.

Oh well. All I can do now is start studying for BEC. At least that textbook is only a fraction of the size of Reg.
